Returning Students
Welcome Back to VSU! We look forward to having you as a student at Virginia State University, and we want to take this opportunity to introduce you to the many services offered to new students by the Department of Residence Life.
You will find living in the residence halls will compliment your university experience and your education. Campus living is a unique experience, which will place you at the center of university action. You will be living with people from all parts of the world. The residence halls at VSU are designed to support, compliment, and expand your total university education by providing a variety of services, activities, programs, facilities, and living environments.
Early Arrivals
Individuals who need to arrive early may find it beneficial to make arrangements with the local Hotel/Motel for accommodations. However, we will not be able to accommodate early arrivals.
Upper Class Housing
Campus living is a unique experience, which will place you at the center of university action. You will be living with people from all parts of the world. The residence halls at VSU are designed to support, compliment, and expand your total university education by providing a variety of services, activities, programs, facilities, and living environments. The majority of our Upper-class students (30 credit hours or more) will have the option of choosing to live in Moore Hall, Gateway II, Quad I, Quad II, and Whiting Hall.
Living in a Community Environment
As a member of a residence hall community, you assume the responsibility for working with your roommate and neighbors to develop and maintain a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment. Residence hall staff members are available to help you adjust to the new environment and encourage you to become involved with people and activities.
Residence halls offer a number of amenities for the comfort and convenience of students, featuring common areas such as lounges, study rooms, reception lobbies, and recreation rooms. Soda machine, snack machine, a microwave, and a laundry room are located in each residence hall.
The University provides housekeeping service for common areas in the halls including bathrooms, hallways, and stairwells. It is your responsibility to keep your room clean and to maintain neatness in the surrounding areas. Residents are responsible for supplying their own personal telephone and long distance service.
Protecting Your Valuables
As stated in the Residence Hall and Food Service Agreement, the University will make every effort to secure each student's property. However, the student agrees to accept full responsibility for loss or damage to personal property. We encourage you to consider a personal property insurance plan or renter’s insurance if you are not sufficiently covered under another insurance policy. The College does not carry insurance, which will cover losses you might incur from fire, theft, or other casualty.

Getting Started
