Graduate Assistant Position

The Graduate Assistant (GA) is crucial to the Residence Life and Housing program. The GA is responsible for the daily operations of a residential facility on campus ranging from 95-500 residents. This is a live-in position with direct in-hall responsibilities and specific “on-call” requirements. The GA co -supervises 5-8 Resident Assistants (RA). The main priority of the GA is assisting residents in their individual development by serving as a resource and referral source. The GA is also responsible for staff and building administration, facility issues and supervising functions performed in conjunction with the Resident Assistants within their building.

Qualifications:

  • Acceptance into a graduate program at Virginia State University
  • Maintain full-time enrollment (9 graduate credit hours) at Virginia State University
  • Maintain a cumulative and semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.00
  • Maintain a good disciplinary standing with the Office of Student Conduct (application through employment)

Compensation:

The Graduate Assistant will be offered a single bedroom waiver at the lowest housing rate for on campus living and $2400 towards an on-campus meal plan for both fall and spring semesters. If the Department of Residence Life and Housing terminates the student or if the student resigns from the position, the student understands that portions or all their compensation may be charged back to their student account for failing to fulfill any portion of the responsibilities outlined in the GA agreement and in the GA job description. The GA should understand that they will be relocated to any available spaces if they choose to remain in on campus housing if they choose to leave their position and or if terminated and will be responsible for paying any remaining housing charges.
