Microwave Safety Policy:
VSU Quad I and II, Gateway, Whiting, Moore, Magnolia
Students in these buildings may bring both a microwave and a compact refrigerator. All microwaves must include the required built-in smoke-sensor technology.
Langston, Seward, Branch, Howard, Campbell, Williams
Students in these buildings may now bring a microwave for the first time, provided it includes the required smoke-sensor technology. Due to the electrical capacity of these residence halls, students may bring only one major appliance: either a microwave or a mini-fridge, but not both. The only exception is an approved MicroFridge unit. MicroFridge units use patented one-plug technology to safely manage the electrical load of the refrigerator, freezer, and microwave, allowing all three components to operate together while meeting residence hall safety requirements.
Quad I Annex, Quad II Annex, Gateway Annex
Students in the annex units are only permitted to bring mini fridges. Microwaves nor microfridges are not permitted. Students will maintain access to a central microwave in the kitchenette, located inside each modular unit.
To make it as easy as possible to comply with these new safety and electrical standards, Virginia State University has partnered with Trojan Rentals(trojanrentals.com) as our official campus MicroFridge provider.
