History & Mission
The Virginia State University Foundation was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia on March 4, 1968.
The mission of the Foundation is to be the principle wealth generation organization assisting Virginia State University to promote the University’s goal of educating and making positive changes in the lives of its students.
The Foundation aids and promotes excellence in the educational, research and services activities of Virginia State University by seeking, receiving and administering private gifts for the benefit of the University.
In principal reliance upon endowment gifts from donors and operational contributions from public and private entities the Foundation has been a reliable source of critical funds that aid the University with educational opportunities beyond what could be funded solely with student tuition and other forms of public and private support.
In recent years the Foundation has provided over $500,000 annually for student financial aid to the University from returns generated from its over 200 endowment and operating funds.
