Royal Court

The Royal Court of Virginia State University is a unique group composed of students who serve as campus royalty under the direction of The Division of Student Success and Engagement.

Members of the Court include the reigning Mister and Miss Virginia State University; Mister and Miss Freshman; Mister and Miss Sophomore; Mister and Miss Junior; and Mister and Miss Senior.

Application Requirements: (Personal information, academic credentials and video submission)

• Be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing with the University, both conduct- based and academically.
• Have earned at least 12 credit hours at the University at the time of candidacy.
• Be on track to classify as the desired classification class, king or queen.
• Plan to enroll as a full time VSU student through the end of the following spring semester.
• At the time of submission of this application, have and maintain, if elected, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
• Submit an unofficial transcript with no grades of “I.”
• Be at least 18 years old.
• Abide by all policies as stated in the VSU Student Handbook and VSU Student Organizations Handbook.
• Be of good moral character, not having been convicted of any crime, excluding moving violations.
• Submit a two page essay (12 pt. font, double spaced) on why you desire to be Mr. or Miss Virginia State University.
• Submit 2 letters of recommendations – one from a University administrator, faculty, or staff member, and one from a fellow peer. NOTE: Resident Assistants (RAs) are not considered staff members.
• Submit three separate videos of an elevator speech, no longer than one minute. INSTRUCTIONS: Pretend you are Mr. or Miss Virginia State University and you’ve just gotten on an elevator with the following: President Abdullah, a 1970 alumnus, and a prospective student. Introduce yourself and your position. DO NOT EMAIL VIDEOS DUE TO THEIR SIZE. Submit appropriately named YouTube, OneDrive, or Google Drive links in the body of your email. Videos should not have to be downloaded and should play directly from clicking on the links. Be sure to check your sharing settings before submission.
• Abide by all of the rules and regulations pertaining to campaigning and voting established by the University. Failure to abide by all rules and regulations will result in immediate disqualification.
• Read the Royal Court Handbook. Signing the application acknowledges reading and understanding all roles, responsibilities, and expectations of the position. Should you become a part of the Royal Court, you will receive a printed version of this and will sign the included contract.
• Submit a copy of your VSU Trojan Card.
