Office of University Legal Counsel

Virginia State University is a state agency and as such, the University Legal Counsel, with the assistance of the Office of the Attorney General, provides legal services to Virginia State University.  This Office provides legal counsel to the Board of Visitors and legal counsel to the University President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors, faculty, supervisors, staff and others acting in their capacity as employees of the University.

The University Legal Counsel’s Office provides a full range of legal services and support to the dynamic educational environment of the University. The University as an institution is this Office’s client. Our function is to provide, manage and coordinate quality legal services including legal advice and representation, litigation and legal risk management, contract drafting and review, compliance oversight and other legal services.

The goal of this Office is to provide efficient, expeditious, reliable and professional legal services that promote the best interests of the University.  As such, University Legal Counsel cannot provide legal consultation to students or provide representation to faculty, staff, or administrators regarding matters of a personal nature.
