VCAN Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs)

  • VCAN stands for the Virginia College Affordability Network and this initiative provides access to 275 eligible students with free tuition.

A student must be VSU admitted, Pell-eligible through FAFSA, graduate from a high school within 45 miles of VSU, have the VSU enrollment deposit paid, & have a recommended 2.5 cumulative high school GPA.

VCAN covers the direct cost of tuition.

Each VCAN Scholar’s award may be different and is determined by their financial aid package and the cost of tuition.

The first year is guaranteed with VCAN.  If a VCAN Scholar stays within good standing, VSU may continue to financially support the scholar.

A VCAN Scholar must maintain full-time status (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester), have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher, and meet VCAN Program expectations with the VCAN Staff.

A scholar will lose the scholarship if they fall below the required cumulative 2.5 GPA after two (2) consecutive semesters; in violation of any VSU Code of Conduct issues; and, other Office of Financial Aid stipulations.

The VCAN Scholar will not need to repay for VCAN, they will simply lose the scholarship moving forward at VSU.
