Collegiate Licensing

The name, marks, logos, and image of Virginia State University CANNOT be used to imply or suggest endorsement of any product or service not provided by Virginia State University. The University seal, name logo and other marks are registered and protected by law. Individuals and organizations outside the University who wish to use any official marks must first obtain written permission by contacting the Office of Communications at 804-524-5583.

The University’s trademark licensing program gives the University control over its logos and marks, thus ensuring the quality and consistency of all uses and merchandise. Anyone wishing to use the University seal and logos of the University must obtain a license.

Internal License – Interested individuals should apply if they produce products specifically for the University and an internal University department. This type of license does not allow a person to sell to retailers or directly to consumers. This is strictly an internal use license and includes a $250 license application fee.

Single School Retail – This is a retail license to sell ONLY Virginia State University merchandise to retailers or directly to consumers. This includes a $250 license application fee.

Multi-School Retail – This license is designed for someone wanting to produce and sell products to retailers and consumers for multiple institutions (up to 25 institutions). This is a $500 application fee.
