Research or Teaching Interests

My research interests are in 1) race relations, 2) racism and psychosocial stress, and 3) the moderating effects of culture and cultural identity on learning and teaching math, academic achievement, and the mental and physical health of African populations, particularly African Americans. Through a cross-section of research designs, I explore the moderating and mediating effects of cultural identity associated with experiences of trauma and stress on health and cognitive processes and how culture and levels of support facilitate the teaching and learning of math and science.
