David G. Chambliss, principal percussionist and charter member, has performed with the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra since its establishment 45 years ago. He received formal training under the tutelage of the founder and director of the orchestra, Dr. F. Nathaniel Gatlin, William R. Mckinley, Dave Hoggard, and Carter Wailes.

Mr. Chambliss received the Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia State University and the Masters degree from Ohio State University. There he studied with Dr. James A. Moore, percussionist. He was Director of Bands and taught instrumental music for more than 30 years in the Petersburg Public Schools.

David is currently adjunct instructor of percussion at Virginia State University, band support specialist, and recruiter. He is adjudicator, free lance musician and founder of the PSO Percussion Group of Petersburg, Virginia. Additionally, Chambliss is very active with the orchestra, travel bands, percussion groups, and teaching private lessons.
