Board of Visitors Meetings February 8, 2024

The Virginia State University (VSU) Board of Visitors will meet Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Gateway Dining & Events Center located on the campus at 2804 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.

Board committees will meet all day Thursday, as indicated below. These public sessions, while open to constituent attendance, are exempt from livestream as they do not qualify as full board meetings. No Board actions will be taken, and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.

  • 2:30p.m. – Full board Meeting

At 2:30 p.m., The Full Board will convene at the Gateway Dining & Events Center for a meeting, which will be available via live stream. There will not be an opportunity for public comment at the meeting.

Board Of Visitors Meeting Notice Public Comment Period Re: Proposed Increase In Tuition, Fees, Room and Board Rates

The Virginia State University Board of Visitors will hold a public comment period on the proposed mandatory increase in student tuition and fees on Thursday, February 8th. The public comment period will be held during the Board’s Facilities & Finance Committee meeting, which starts at 10:15 a.m. in the Gateway Dining and Event Center on February 8th.

Virginia State University proposes a three (3%) percent increase to its undergraduate and graduate in-state and out-of-state tuition, fees, room and board rates. The increase is to address continued inflationary pressures as well as anticipated increased costs for public safety, health services and technology.

University officials will provide an explanation for the proposed increase, and the Board Committee will receive public comment in accordance with the Code of Virginia §23.1-307 (D)(E). The public comment period will be the opportunity for members of the University community and of the general public to share their thoughts with Board members about the proposed increase.

Individuals who desire to speak before the Board are required to pre-register on a first-come, first-serve basis. Speakers will be asked to specify their affiliation, if any, with Virginia State University. All remarks must be relevant to the proposed increase in tuition, fees, room and board rates. Persons interested in participating in the public comment period must adhere to the following guidelines.

  1. Pre-register to speak by the deadline of Thursday, February 1, 2024 in either of the following ways.

  2. Limit comments to 3-minutes
  3. Provide a written copy of their comments to the Board Secretary or Board Liaison

The Board is expected to vote on the proposed increase at 9 am, March 22, 2024, in the Gateway Dining & Event Center. In lieu of oral comments, written comments will be accepted until March 13, 2023 (7 business days before the March 22 nd meeting). Written comments can be submitted in the following ways:
