Spring 2018 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following spring 2018 student accomplishments.

(1) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) earned a scholarship from the Richmond Chapter of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance.

(2) Ibukun Jimoh (Accounting major) and Dennis McRae (Accounting major) earned positions for after graduation at Tax Solutions Alliance in Midlothian.

(3) Catera Ruth (MISY major) earned an invite to participate in the KPMG Future Leaders Program in Hollywood this summer along with an internship next semester.

(4) Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) was selected to participate in Deloitte’s SAP competition.

(5) Stephanie Osafo (Accounting major) earned a job for after graduation in May at Enterprise Rent-a-Car as a Staff Accountant in Alexandria.

(6) Tamairah Marshall (Accounting major) and Jzakaala Hamilton (Marketing major) participated in RVA Fashion Week; Tamairah as a model and Jzakaala as an attendee and networked with scores of businesses.

(7) Langston Jordan (Management major), Michaela Nelson (Marketing major), and Krystal Whidbee (MISY major) participated in the IBM celebration at Swaders; all three will join the ranks of IBM subsequent graduation next month.

(8) Imani Groce (Accounting major) earned a post-grad internship at Union Bank and Trust as their Enterprise Risk Management trainee.

(9) Samuel Smith (MISY major) earned an internship for the summer at Thompson Construction in Richmond where he will be responsible for data management.

(10) Javae Terrell (Management major) participated in an entrepreneur’s networking event in Richmond with forty businesses.

(11) Myia Jones (Marketing major) earned a $1,000 scholarship from the PROC Foundation for her ThinkHBCU essay.

(12) Shayla Weatherhead (Marketing major) earned an opportunity to visit Texas this summer to participate in Deloitte’s SAP competition.

(13) Adante Holliman (Marketing major) earned a paid summer internship in marketing at Atlantic Bay in Yorktown.

(14) Tajaiana Menchion (Management major and International Relations minor) was selected to spend a week in June in Mexico studying the implications of insects on international relations.

(15) Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the summer as an Intake Coordinator at Crater Hospice in Petersburg.

(16) Terrill Shephard (Accounting major) secured a paid post-graduate internship at KPMG in accounting in Connecticut.

(17) Deonte Barkley (Marketing major) and Myia Jones (Marketing major) secured part-time paid marketing positions with Richmond International Raceway.

(18) Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) earned paid internships for the summer at both GEICO and Enterprise Rent-a-Car; Sydney decided on GEICO.

(19) Myia Jones (Marketing major) was selected for an opportunity to study abroad this May and June in Berlin.

(20) O’Rane Mclean (Marketing major) was selected to depart for Dubai on May 16th for a ten day study-abroad visit.

(21) Ty-Li Brickus-Clarke (International Relations minor) visited with Jason Kamras (Superintendent of Richmond Public Schools) and so impressed RPS that she earned a teaching job for after graduation in May.

(22) Unique Lotman (Accounting major) participated as a volunteer in the Petersburg Chamber Spring Fling.

(23) Brittney Palmer (Management major) recruited high school students at Hopewell High and secured several commits to visit campus.

(24) Justine Santana (Management major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in May as a Manager at Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

(25) Nadia Osufu-Asante (Management major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in May as a Program Administrative Specialist for P3 Partners working at the U.S. Department of Education in D.C.

(26) Osak Okunbor (Accounting major) earned a paid internship as an Internal Auditor at the Federal Reserve for the summer.

(27) Kyla Frank (Management major) and her representation of the College and the University at Virginia21 in increasing awareness on this campus pertinent to voting and democratic processes materialized in being awarded the Virginia21 Student Voice Award for demonstrating exemplary leadership in advancing the mission and goals of Virginia21 in their campus community. Kyla singlehandedly registered scores of voters and along with her team she secured the most significant percentage increase in voter registration of any Virginia21 school this past year. Accepting the award on Kyla’s behalf was Unique Lotman (Accounting major). Again, the College of Business is leading the way and demonstrating excellence in every regard recognized today by the Secretary of Education for Virginia.

(28) Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) earned a paid summer internship in HR at VDOT in Richmond where she will intern for the second year in a row.

(29) Sefiyetu Abdullah (Marketing minor) and Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Relations minor) participated in a financial services industry conference in Richmond with sixty businesses.

(30) Abubker Ibrahim (Management major) participated in the Capital One Incubator open house with forty businesses in Richmond and also participated in a business development meeting with Will Morris (Owner of EdConnective).

(31) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Relations minor) shadowed Victor Branch (Market President for Bank of America).

(32) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major) and Destini Woods (Management major) participated in the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.

(33) A team comprised of Chanel Brown (Marketing major), Destiny Hodges (Marketing major), Marcus Lowery (Marketing major), Ai’Jalon McGhee (Marketing major), and Destini Woods (Management major) were selected as of one of only 14 finalist teams from universities around the state to compete at UVA for an entrepreneurship pitch and opportunity to win $20k.

(34) Mabertine Pierre (Management major) was admitted to NYU to earn her graduate degree at the Cinema Studies M.A. Program at the Tisch School of the Arts.

(35) Terrill Shephard (Accounting major) earned a full time position for after graduation in May as a Financial Analyst for the U.S. Navy.

(36) Corey Vickers (Entrepreneurship minor) earned a paid internship for the summer as a Sales Associate at Liberty Mutual in Glen Allen.

(37) Unique Lotman (Accounting major) participated in a business luncheon with twenty-five businesses in the Tri-Cities including e.g. the Southside Virginia Association of Realtors.

(38) John Ross (MISY major) at SunTrust’s downtown facility won the Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC) Richmond Chapter 2018 Oratorical Competition and along with it a $500 scholarship. The other College of Business participants were Guy DeWeever (Marketing major) and Adante Holliman (Marketing major).

(39) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Relations minor) shadowed Cornel Hubbard (VP) at Magellan Healthcare in Richmond.

(40) Micah Bullard (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship for the summer at Ernst & Young in Tysons Corner.

(41) Our students’ accomplishments were celebrated and the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business was recognized for our “sustained contributions” to building leaders. Specifically, at the Metropolitan Business League (MBL) Annual Awards Show in Richmond the College was awarded the MBL Chairman’s Leadership Award.

(42) Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) earned a full-time position for after graduation in May at IBM for a consultant role in Dallas where she will join Ahmad Alnigrish (Marketing major and May 17 grad).

(43) Kire’ Worley (Accounting major) earned a paid internship for the summer in finance at Morgan Stanley in Richmond.

(44) Tavieo Miles (MISY major) earned an IT internship for the spring at EAM Solutions Group in Matoaca.

(45) Ty-Li Brickus-Clarke (International Relations minor) and Destini Woods (Management major) participated in a Black History Gala in Richmond with over one hundred businesses along with Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax and Congressman Don McEachin.

(46) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) participated in the REMI luncheon in Richmond with economists for a conversation pertinent to tariffs on steel and aluminum and the adverse effect on GDP.

(47) Seventy students participated in Wells Fargo Day.

(48) Forty students participated in CancerLink Day including twenty students registering as volunteers.

(49) Sixty students participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters Day including ten students registering as volunteers.

(50) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) earned a job for after graduation in May at Riverside Payments as a Sales Associate.

(51) Fifteen students interviewed for on campus Finance & Administration internships for next year.

(53) Innocent Adebiyi (Marketing major), Domeri Clayton (Accounting major), Destiny Hodges (Marketing major), Adante Holliman (Marketing major), Cyrus Jones (Accounting major), Mohamed Keita (Accounting major), Shannon Lawson (Management major), Unique Lotman (Accounting major), Derrick Lowe (Accounting major), O’Rane McLean (Marketing major), Catera Ruth (MISY major), Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major), Kiara Turner (Accounting major), Diamond Walker (Accounting major), and Davonne Wilmore (MISY major) earned paid internships for next year with the VSU Administration and Finance Department.

(54) Nadia Ofosu Asante (Management major), Ty-Li Brickus-Clarke (International Relations minor), Corderal Cook (Accounting major), Shantel Harvey (Accounting major), Kaylee Lambert (Marketing minor), Khalil Lyons (MISY major), Brittney Palmer (Management major), and John Ross (MISY major) were the top performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Magellan Healthcare, Shamin Hotels, and Richard Bland College.

(55) Aicha Camara (Management/HR major and 17 grad) earned a position as a Communications Specialist at BrownGreer, i.e. a law firm in Richmond at Rocketts Landing.

(56) Twenty students in Organization and Environment hosted Rick Carr (HR Leader at Simple 123) in the classroom. A big thanks to Mark Kunze for his hospitality!

(57) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) earned a National Association of Black Accountants scholarship for $1,500.

(58) Kierra Anthony (Marketing major), Chanel Brown (Marketing major), Destiny Hodges (Marketing major), Marcus Lowery (Marketing major), Ai’Jalon McGhee (Marketing major), John Ross (MISY major), and Destini Woods (Management major) participated in the highly selective Tom Tom Festival in Charlottesville and were selected as one of only 14 collegiate teams from around the state to compete in an entrepreneurship competition. The students were selected out of 55 teams from colleges and universities to pitch their business plan.

(59) Essence Bridges (Marketing minor), Barry Brown (Management major), Jean Cain (Management major), Justin Camp (Management major), Jasmine Davis (Accounting major), Brandon Green (MISY major), Imani Groce (Accounting major), Robert Harper (MISY major), Jasmine Johnson (Accounting major), Stephanie Osafo (Accounting major), Dominique Pinder (Marketing major), Ciara Rawls (Accounting major), Jeremy Stokes (Management major), and Jennifer Williams (Management major) represented the Virginia Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) at the State Leadership Conference and Business Competitions in Richmond and placed 1st in five competitions, 2nd in seven competitions and 3rd in one competition squaring off against teams from UVA, Virginia Tech, JMU, UR, etc.

(60) DeVaughn Jones (Management major) and Ibukun Jimoh (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by AT&T, Macy’s, Union Bankshares, and Smart Beginnings.

(61) Deonte’ Barkley (Marketing major), Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Accounting major), and Chamyra Riddick (Management major) interviewed for a summer paid internship at Crater Hospice.

(62) Mame Dior Beye (Management major and 14 grad) earned a new position as a Senior Accounting Administrator at National Beverage Corporation and relocated to Miami.

(63) Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major and 15 grad) earned a new position as a Procurement Coordinator at DAK Americas in South Carolina.

(64) Shanice Allonce (Marketing minor), Britany Palmer (Management major), and John Ross (MISY major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the Office of the Governor, the Federal Reserve, KPMG, Cherry Bekaert, Comcast, and American National.

(65) L’Nique Mone Freeman (Management major) earned an internship for the balance of spring at the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

(66) Jaylin Crawley (Management major) earned a paid position for the summer at Virginia Union University where she will be an Upward Bound counselor and will reside on campus with newly arriving freshmen.

(67) Over one hundred students were recognized for their scholastic aptitude and achievement at the College’s Honor’s and Beta Gamma Sigma celebrations.

(68) Kierra Anthony, Chanel Brown, Chrisana Cuffee, Steven McAlester, Diamond Sims, Bryana Thomas, Drew White, and Sydney Yao (all Marketing majors/minors) hosted representatives from the American Marketing Association on campus for a lunch and learn.

(69) Nine students in MISY 311 hosted Brittany Brown (IT Analyst and Scrum Manager at the Federal Reserve) in the classroom. A big thanks to Dr. Adekoya for his hospitality.

(70) Cameron Bailey, Paris Cort, Imani Groce, Ibukun Jimoh, Unique Lotman, Dennis McRae, Emmanuel Pierre-Louis, Sean Sharpe, and Terrill Shephard (all Accounting majors) interviewed for an accounting position with Vaughan Long (Owner) of Tax Solutions Alliance.

(71) Destini Woods (Management major) shadowed Mike Short (Owner of PRO) in Colonial Heights.

(72) Rachel Ajibolade, Brandon Green, Tavieo Miles, Sam Smith, Erica Pickens, John Ross, and Tiara Walker (all MISY majors) interviewed with Walter Dula (Cyber Security Manager) from Accenture. Dula also taught a group of eleven students in Advanced Information Security. A big thanks to Dr. Adekoya for his hospitality!

(74) Phillip Connor (Management major), Cameron Marshall (Management major), Bryana Thomas (Marketing major), and Drew White (Marketing major) participated in an entrepreneurship workshop with Walter Cornett (Owner of PRO).

(75) Over ninety students participated in Enterprise Rent-a-Car Day with Blake Wingfield (Recruiter).

(76) Taylor Choyce (Management major and Dec 17 grad) earned a full-time position at Astyra where she will work for our former student Brittany Brown in Richmond.

(77) Keana Walker (Management major and Dec 17 grad) earned a full-time position as a General Manager with Booz Allen Hamilton in Lorton where she will commute from Fredericksburg.

(78) DeVaughn Jones (Management major), Kaylee Lambert (Marketing minor), Ai’Jalon McGhee (Marketing major), Mabertine Pierre (Management major), and John Ross (MISY major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assed by Rolls Royce, Harrell & Chambliss, Auditor of Public Accounts, Abilene Motor Express, and Keller Williams.

(79) Over thirty students participated in a case study competition with Deloitte and Tremon Harold (Marketing major) interviewed for the Leadership Institute.

(80) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) earned a full-time job for after graduation at Allstate. She also has other leads and is evaluating her options.

(81) GiGi Cooper (MISY major), Tavieo Miles (MISY major), Marquai Randolph (MISY major), Catera Ruth (MISY major), Sam Smith (MISY major), and Imani Tynes (MISY major) were awarded national membership in the Black Data Processing Association (BDPA) by way of sponsorship by Johnson & Johnson.

(82) Chrisana Cuffee (Marketing major) and Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Accounting major) participated in a Petersburg Chamber annual dinner with forty businesses along with the Governor.

(83) Cheyanne Thomas (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship with Daily Jolt Coffee promoting and doing business development for the upstart company in Richmond.

(84) Over three hundred students hosted twenty-five alums representing twenty-five businesses and/or organizations for classroom exercises on Founder’s Day.

(85) Cyrus Jones (Accounting major), Shaneka King (MISY major), Unique Lotman (Accounting major), Catera Ruth (MISY major), and Keonante Williams (Accounting major) interviewed for the Future Diversity Leadership Program. Terrill Shepherd (Accounting major) and Tiara Walker (MISY major) interviewed for full-time employment subsequent graduation.

(87) Chanel Brown (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for the summer as a Marketing Manager at Fort Lee where she currently interns this semester.

(88) Shanikka Richardson (Marketing major and 15 grad) earned a new job as a Digital Content Specialist at Howard University.

(89) Atiya Leach (Marketing major and 13 grad) earned a new job as Divisional Marketing Manager for Indevco Plastics.

(90) Mahogany Smith (Management/HR major and Dec 17 grad) earned a HR Assistant position with the City of Petersburg.

(91) Marnelle Fanfan (Management major and 14 grad) accepted a new position as a Manager-in-Training at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

(92) Khalil Lyons (MISY major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Bank of America, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, VDOT, Boys and Girls Club, Indevco Plastics, City of Richmond, City of Petersburg, and Mondelez International.

(93) Malaika Lillard (Accounting major) earned a full-time Accounts Payable position at Willbros T&D Services East.

(94) Destiny Broadnax (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship for the spring with Comcast.

(95) Phillip Conner (Management major) earned a full-time position for after graduation at Trigg Shipyard in Newport News as a Pipe Fitter.

(96) Myia Jones (Marketing major) participated in the CIAA Men’s and Women’s Empowerment Symposium in Charlotte.

(97) Shantel Harvey (Accounting major) and Unique Lotman (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by State Farm, Dominion, Fort Lee Federal Credit Union, Pepsi, and Victoria’s Kitchen.

(98) Jaquan Burnell (Management major) shadowed Robert Bolling (CEO of Childsavers) in Richmond and was offered a summer internship.

(99) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Relations Minor), Jeremy Stokes (Management major), and Drew White (Marketing major) participated in the Virginia’s Gateway Region annual dinner with forty businesses.

(100) Fifteen students in Entrepreneurship Small Business Management hosted John Guzak (Owner of Hyrell Online Hiring Systems) for classroom exercises. A big thanks to Pandian for his hospitality.

(104) Kierra Anthony (Marketing major), Bryana Thomas (Marketing major), Isaiah Washington (Marketing major) Drew White (Marketing major), and Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) hosted Sally Witzky from the American Marketing Association (AMA) for a branding workshop.

(105) Justine Santana (Management major) and Vonyeh Holloman (Management major) attended a networking event at the Cameron Foundation with ten businesses.

(106) Equasha Smith (Management/HR major and 14 grad) earned a Supply Chain Manager position with Pepsi in Richmond.

(107) Amanda Diaz (Accounting major and 13 grad) earned an Accountant position at Ditech Financial in Pennsylvania.

(108) Ty-Li Brickus-Clarke (International Relations Minor), Onzae Carter (MISY major), GiGi Cooper (MISY major), Brandon Green (MISY major), Bobby Harper (MISY major), Erica Pickens (MISY major), Catera Ruth (MISY major), Reniqua Walker (MISY major), and Imani Tynes (MISY major) participated in an overnight visit to IBM in Raleigh to meet with senior executive at IBM and to participate in workshops.

(109) Jasmine Baskett (Marketing major) participated in a Morgan Stanley networking event with Hugh Steiner (Richmond Region Leader) in Richmond with over one business businesses and attended the Richmond Ballet’s production of Sleeping Beauty.

(110) Shamir Tyner (MISY major) participated in a Goochland High School college fair recruiting students.

(111) GiGi Cooper (MISY major), Chrisana Cuffee (Marketing major), Adante Holliman (Marketing major), Myia Jones (Marketing major), Tajaiana D. Menchion (Management major), JuJuan Peel (Management major), and Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) hosted the Jack and Jill Foundation on campus including participating in a student panel for the middle school children.

(112) Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) earned an internship for the semester at the YMCA with the Executive Director at the Petersburg facility.

(113) Adante Holliman (Marketing major) and Khalil Lyons (MISY major) were the Top-Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by State Farm, Gloucester Institute, and Career Prospectors.

(114) Carl Capel (Accounting major and 15 grad) earned a position as a Business Line Senior Financial Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

(115) Thirty students participated in Henrico County Police Day.

(116) Chrisana Cuffee (Marketing major) was selected to design a logo for the Petersburg Chamber’s business launch initiative.

(117) Jevon Eason (Management major), Kyla Frank (Management major), and Kamya Reid (Management major) participated in the Virginia21 Conference including dinner with Governor Northam in Richmond. The students also visited with alums Senator Rosalyn Dance and Delegate Lashrecse Aird.

(118) Marquai Randolph (MISY major) started his own business, i.e. Siriously Driven. It is a iphone repairs business.

(119) Ibukun Jimoh (Accounting major) interviewed for a full-time accounting job with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

(120) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major) and Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) participated in a networking dinner with Michael Piwowar (Commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission).

(121) Sixty students participated in Commercial Real Estate for Women (CREW) Day including hands-on classroom exercises. A special thanks to Young Dimpkah, Hari Sharma, Louis Dabney, and Steve Holeman.

(122) Forty students participated in Fort Lee Federal Credit Union Day including conversing pertinent to job opportunities.

(123) Fifteen students participated in Waffle House Day.

(124) Justin Murchison (MISY major and 15 grad) who is an IT Associate at the Federal Reserve relocated to Denver and Jenae Moore (Management major an 16 grad) just relocated to Los Angeles to accommodate a promotion as a Sales Manager for a large hotel there.

(125) Brandan Christian (Management major and Dec 17 grad) earned a full-time position as a Senior Customer Service Representative at Capital One.

(126) Bobby Harper (MISY major) earned a paid cyber security internship for the summer at Thomson Reuters in Richmond. He will join Onzae’ Carter (MISY major) this summer.

(127) Jaylin Crawley (Management major), Drew White (Marketing major), and Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) participated in a Young Professionals Networking event with over one hundred businesses.

(128) Kabria Allen (Marketing major) and over forty students hosted Victor Branch (President, Virginia operations) of Bank of America in the classroom, for lunch, and a campus tour. A special thanks to Institutional Advancement’s Reshunda Mahone and Stephen Wilson along with Ade Ola and Patrice Perry-Rivers.

(129) Over forty students participated in classroom exercises and a lunch and learn focus group with Virginia Credit Union’s Cherry Dale and Tom Katovsich.

(132) Fifteen students participated in a LinkedIn workshop with Peter Larsen and Leigh Pollard from Cobb Technologies for an American Marketing Association meeting.

(133) Over forty students participated in workshops with Ervin Clarke (President and CEO) of Urban Views Weekly. A special thanks to Louis Dabney and Alex Weimer.
