Legal Counsel

The University Legal Counsel’s Office assists the Office of the Attorney General in connection with the provision of legal services and representation of the Commonwealth of Virginia and its agency, Virginia State University.

While working closely with the University’s administration, the agency is embodied by its Board of Visitors, and it is that Board (and the Attorney General) to which this office is primarily responsible.The University Legal Counsel’s Office provides a full range of legal services to the University. Some areas in which we provide legal advice and representation are business matters, transactions and contract review, labor and employment, litigation, property acquisitions, student and faculty issues, among others.


University Legal Counsel cannot provide legal consultation to students or provide representation to faculty, staff, or administrators regarding matters of a personal nature.
