The Economics program at Virginia State University is designed to equip students with theoretical and practical tools needed for analyzing and solving real-world problems.
The Department recognizes the changing dynamics of the contemporary global economy and the increasing demand on the American workforce to compete internationally. Thus our Economics program has in recent times been redesigned to better prepare students for the complex needs of today’s knowledgeable society by equipping them with requisite skills.

Our undergraduate economics majors are engaged in programs that include a core in
- microeconomic theory,
- macroeconomic theory, and
- quantitative methods.
These principles are further developed and reinforced in a variety of elective courses appropriate for many applied areas.
