Our Academic Advisors in the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business are here to help you navigate through the pre-business and business phases of your major.  All business students are assigned an Advisor based on their major.  We strongly encourage you to meet with your Advisor early and often throughout the semester.   

What should you expect from your Advisor? 

  • Assistance with academic planning and course selections.  
  • Assistance with selecting an appropriate major. 
  • Knowledge of campus resources and support services. 
  • Knowledge of VSU academic policies and the registration process. 

Why should you meet with your Advisor? 

  • If you have questions or concerns about your chosen major or field of study. 
  • If you have questions about your curriculum or class schedule. 
  • For assistance with selecting and registering for classes. 
  • For guidance with exploring major and career options.  

When should you meet with your Advisor? 

Advisors are available throughout the semester.  It is recommended that you see your Advisor at least twice each semester.  

Before registration. It is strongly recommended that students seek advisement each semester before registering for courses.  

If you are experiencing difficulties in any of your courses.   

To ask questions about getting involved on campus and becoming an active Trojan!

Academic Advising works closely with you and faculty to ensure you have the support you need to earn a degree aligned with your life, educational, and career goals.

Purpose

At the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business, our goal is to provide a respectful, professional, supportive, and nurturing environment in which students can discuss their concerns and individual needs. Our advisors:

  • Introduce students to business program requirements and academic expectations.
  • Monitor student progress and address concerns early.
  • Guide students in selecting courses that align with program requirements.
  • Evaluate readiness to move into the business phase.
  • Support students who may not meet admission criteria.
  • Help students explore potential business majors and career paths.

What courses should I take next semester?

Answer: Make sure you meet with your assigned advisor and follow the correct curriculum sheet provided for your major according to your catalog year.

What GPA do I need to get into the business program?

Answer: Students majoring in Accounting, Management, Marketing and
Computer Information Systems must have a minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA to
get into the business program.

What major should I choose within business?

Answer: Students seek guidance on selecting between options like
Management, Marketing, Accounting, or Computer Information Systems  
based on their interests and career goals.

How can I improve my GPA or academic performance?

Answer: Consult with your academic advisor for appropriate strategies.

What internships or career opportunities should I be pursuing?
