How to Apply
The goal of the Office of Admissions is to provide you with an admissions decision as quickly as possible. Our new student application is free. Start Your Admissions Application. Completed applications with transcripts attached will be reviewed within two weeks of submission. SAT and/or ACT test scores are optional. Academic Merit Based Scholarships will be awarded at the time of your admissions decision. We highly suggest completing your FAFSA before March 15th for priority packaging. Newly admitted students are expected to confirm their intent to enroll by May 1st by submitting their enrollment deposit. Please refer to the Admitted Student Guide for instructions and guidance.
In order to be consider for admissions as a freshman you must have the following:
- In progress of completing a college, technical, or vocational preparatory diploma from high school OR a completed diploma from high school.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA for Full Admissions for the Fall term
- Lower GPAs may be considered for provisional admissions within the Spring or Summer terms.
- Test Scores are optional but can be submitted.
- Completed application with documents uploaded to your admission’s portal.
Transfer Students
Applicants who have attended a regionally accredited college or university are considered for admission to all sessions. Applicants must have a cumulative average of “C” (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) or above and be in good standing at the previous institutions. Courses eligible for transfer must be college-level courses (100-level or higher) with a minimum grade of "C".
A transfer applicant with fewer than 30 semester hours must submit an official final high school transcript as well as a full SAT or ACT score report along with the college transcript.
Entrance Requirements
Students must successfully pass an audition in the selected performance area and a music literacy assessment to be admitted to any music degree program (see audition requirements). For students who lack the preparation to successfully pass an audition and/or pass the literacy assessment, faculty may recommend that the student take advantage of supplemental instruction during the first semester to help prepare for a successful audition before the start of the second semester.
Audition Requirements
All students who wish to major in music must audition with a chosen instrument, which they will continue to study during the course of the degree program. Available areas of applied study are voice, keyboard (piano), and string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Students are advised to seek out assistance in preparing the audition. The Department of Music will hold several audition dates throughout the academic year. Please visit the Audition link on our department’s website to receive specific information about our upcoming dates and process. In addition to the audition, students seeking admission into the Sound Recording Technology program will sit for an interview and should bring samples of their work. All auditions may include sightreading.
