Society of Manufacturing Engineering Academic Organization

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is the world’s leading professional society advancing manufacturing knowledge and influencing more than half a million manufacturing practitioners annually. Virginia State University’s SME chapter welcomes all STEM field majors and strives to keep students encouraged to continue their education within their respective fields. This academic organization benefits students by allowing resources for professional development within the world of engineering.

Over the years we have established trustworthy connections to help you find networking opportunities. For example, we arrange plant tours to manufacturing facilities. Another benefit of SME is the chance to converse with your fellow peers. We understand how difficult certain courses can be and create opportunities to help make it easier. Finally, this academic organization receives creditable recognition from companies as well as other professors on this campus.

There are a number of officer positions available in VSU’s chapter if you decide to take your membership further. Officers are elected annually.
