Assistant Sports Information Director
Duties & Responsibilities
The Virginia State University Department of Athletics is accepting applications for an Assistant Sports Information Director. This position will be responsible for keying, maintaining and compiling statistical data for assigned sports teams (football, volleyball, basketball, etc.) using the required software (StatCrew). The selected candidate will be responsible for creating and distributing written and visual media content for assigned sports. In addition, this position will be responsible for producing print and digital media content to enhance the overall recognition of the Athletic Department, Staff and Student-Athletes. The selected candidate will manage daily communication responsibilities on several VSU Athletic Platforms (website, social media, etc.) to assist with marketing efforts within the VSU Athletics department; alongside providing information about VSU athletic activities, research historical data and information for feature articles and athletic events. As an employee of the Virginia State University Athletic staff, the selected candidate will be obligated to cooperate fully in all reported NCAA infractions per NCAA Bylaw, assist the agency and/or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor, and complete other duties as assigned by the VSU Senior Administration. Lastly, the selected candidate will perform other related athletic duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communications and Director of Athletics.
Candidates must have experience working in a collegiate athletic setting for a minimum of three years. Must have experience in NCAA and CIAA recognized statistical software (StatCrew) to include, but not limited to, keying stats for volleyball, football and basketball. Must have experience in developing media guides, sport programs, schedule cards, and event flyers using InDesign and Photoshop. Must have experience in using Sidearm website software. Candidates must display outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to write pre-game and post-game stories, feature stories, human interest stories, etc. Must be able to work in a diverse environment and have the ability to multi-task. The candidate in this position must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education of public relations, journalism, marketing, sport management or other related disciplines. Must be able to work some evenings, weekends and some university holiday’s.
