Founded in 1882, Virginia State University (VSU) is one of Virginia’s two land-grant institutions. As part of VSU’s land-grant mission, the College of Agriculture is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and is comprised of three Units, Teaching, Cooperative Extension, and an Agricultural Research Station. The University has a 416-acre Farm (Randolph) which serves as an agricultural learning center and research facility.

The Department of Agriculture seeks applicants for a 9-month, Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor Position in agricultural education within the College of Agriculture. The successful candidate will serve as the lead instructor for courses in Agricultural Education and Agrisciences and the advisement of students in the concentration area. The Dept. is seeking an individual to help rebuild the Agricultural Education program focused on 21st century agricultural science and international education. The individual must facilitate educational efforts in teaching and research and work with existing faculty in delivering modern agricultural education programs.

Teaching/Service Learning (75%) – During the academic year, the faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Agricultural Education and related Agrisciences, based upon qualifications, in Animal, Plant and Environmental sciences and International Agriculture Education. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will actively participate in undergraduate student advisement, curriculum development, and student teacher supervision as well as work with existing faculty to coordinate experiential learning activities linked to the courses in the agricultural education curriculum. The successful candidate will also assist the department with activities involved with Global Agriculture Education Field Experiences, both domestically and abroad.

Research (25%) – During summers, faculty member will engage in research activities related to Agricultural Education and actively participate and coordinate Agricultural Education Summer Institutes. The faculty member will assist with applied research studies/preparation as part of the International Agriculture Certificate Program. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively with Research Faculty to seek external STEM and Agriculture Workforce Development grants to support curricula design and funding of adult and student learning.

Qualified candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate in Agricultural, Leadership and Community Education or a closely related field. Additional degrees and/or training in Agricultural Sciences (Animal Science, Plant and Environmental Science, Agribusiness/Economics, etc.) is desirable. Candidates must have three or more years of experience in agricultural education with emphasis on professional and career services, internship supervision, and demonstrated expertise in research and/or creative scholarship along with experience advising undergraduate/graduate students and engagement of stakeholder groups. Experience with distance learning education, online course development and instruction is preferred.
