Founded in 1882, Virginia State University (VSU) is one of Virginia’s two land-grant institutions.
As part of VSU’s land-grant mission, the College of Agriculture is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and is comprised of three Units, Teaching, Cooperative Extension, and an Agricultural Research Station. The University has a 416-acre Farm (Randolph) which serves as an agricultural learning center and research facility.

The Department of Agriculture in the College of Agriculture seeks applicants for a 12-month, Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Agricultural Education The successful candidate will serve as a Program Coordinator for the Agricultural Education program and advise students in the concentration of agricultural education. The Dept. is seeking an individual to help rebuild the Agricultural Education program focused on 21st century agricultural science education. The individual must facilitate teaching and extension education efforts and work with existing Faculty in delivering modern agricultural education programs.

Teaching/Service Learning (75%) – During the academic year, the faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Agricultural Education; to include but not limited to Agricultural Mechanics and Technology (AGMT), Agriculture Systems Technology (Precision Agriculture), Agriculture Teacher Preparation, Agriculture Education Research Methods, and other areas as required. The faculty member will also teach the AGMT courses to facilitate the continuing education Virginia Teacher’s licensure requirement for Agriculture Education. The successful candidate will actively participate in undergraduate student advising, and experiential learning curriculum development, student-teacher supervision, and the advisement of student agriculture organizations. Additionally, the candidate is to focus on enhancing the enrollment of students in Ag Education through recruitment and development of summer enrichment and experiential learning programs.
Extension Education (25%) – During the summer, the faculty member will engage in outreach/ engagement activities related to Extension 4-H and Youth development workshops and Global Education. The faculty member is to work collaboratively with Extension faculty to seek external STEM and Agriculture Workforce Development grants to support curricula design and funding of adult and student learning.
Qualified candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate in Agricultural & Extension Education or closely related field with relevant training/experience in secondary agricultural education pedagogy, student-teacher supervision and preparation; with an emphasis on modern Agriculture and Technology Systems curriculum development. Candidates must have extensive professional experience in agricultural education (e.g. secondary school teacher, etc.) and demonstrated expertise in research and/or creative scholarship within the discipline. Experience in theadvisement of undergraduate/graduate students and demonstrated engagement with stakeholders is a requisite.
