Major Gift Officer

PURPOSE
Major Gift Officer’s main objective is to cultivate and manage relationships on behalf of Virginia State University with the goal of raising funds to advance the mission of the institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for developing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with special focus on gifts of $25,000 or more. This position requires the willingness and ability to frequently travel, as well as the ability to work some evenings and weekends. Responsible for assuring that pertinent information and contacts for assigned prospects are properly recorded in the institutional database. Works collaboratively with administration, advancement staff, deans, faculty and University constituents to cultivate and solicit donors for University priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS
At least three years of experience in fundraising with a bachelor's degree in business, public relations, marketing or related fields. Experience in using Banner Advancement (or other fundraising/donor databases) and the application of moves management. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet search engines. The ability to grow and manage a portfolio of 50 to 100+ individual, corporate and foundation constituents is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

CFRE preferred Fundraising experience preferably in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
