Transfer Admissions Counselor,

Virginia State University is seeking a dynamic person who will serve as transfer admission counselor responsible for recruiting, admitting, and enrolling undergraduate students to meet the University’s enrollment goals.  This is a 12-month professional faculty appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will be expected to become fully engaged in a broad range of recruitment and admission activities, including conducting virtual and in-person interviews and informational sessions; visiting community/junior colleges and some high schools; and attend college fairs; will build relationships with and serve as a resource for prospective students and their families; will evaluate applications; will participate in the admission committee process, and assist with the planning and implementation of special programs; will assist in the development of social networking programs, admission presentations and publications for students entering the University as transfer or first-time, first-year students; and will perform other duties as assigned.   Extensive travel and evening and weekend work is required. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution  
  • Demonstrated professional work experience counseling students on academic matters
  • Expert knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and virtual conferencing programs (ex., Zoom, WebEx, and Microsoft Teams)
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills are required
  • Demonstrated authoring and composition skills are required
  • A valid state Driver’s license
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule and lift heavy boxes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Master’s degree from an accredited institution within the area of specialization; preference given to candidates who have experience working in a college or university admissions office; and demonstrated experience with Internet-based student information systems, such as Banner and have familiarity with CRM technology.
