Provide leadership in the strategic management and direction of all IT programs and policies to support the mission of Virginia State University. Provide stable infrastructure, leading edge technology, and superior technological services to the VSU community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The desired candidate will have the experience and ability to: Respond to instruction and feedback of supervisors in a constructive manner in order to improve personal performance; Provide day-to-day supervision of staff in a constructive manner in order to improve performance of each individual; Provide leadership in development and implementation of IT strategic plans to ensure the IT strategies and services are aligned with the University’s strategic plan; Provide leadership in Applications, cloud or on premise infrastructure projects to ensure adherence to the Commonwealth’s Project Management and Enterprise and Technical Architecture standards; Provide leadership in planning and executing the IT Governance structure to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices; Develop employee and departmental training plans to ensure increase in knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff; Develop, maintain, and enforce IT policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards and VITA; Assures the University Information system is operating and maintained. Insure all IT system users complete any unique security training, prior to or as soon as practical, after receiving access to the system and annually, thereafter. Manage system risk and developing of information security policies and procedures commensurate with risk. Maintain compliance with all applicable policies and standards in all IT system activities. Maintain compliance with requirements specified by Data Owners for the handling of data processed by the system. Perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Staff and/or President.
Must have extensive knowledge utilizing computer applications, systems development, operations, technical services, and user technology including considerable supervisory experience. Ability to make decisions at the IT executive level. Demonstrated knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Broad knowledge of principles and practices of information management/information technology, finance and budgeting, procurement/contracting, and project management. Thorough knowledge of cloud technologies, IT service management, desktop technologies and personal computing applications, business productivity software, concepts of distributed systems, local/wide area networking, server and client operating systems, and telecommunications. Excellent leadership, team building, customer service, problem solving, written/verbal communications, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Previous work experience in a higher education institution.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION required for entry into position
Minimum of an earned Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
