Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist 

Virginia State University (VSU) is accepting applications for the Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist.  Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist is responsible for the engagement and cultivation of VSU’s alumni, donors, and friends.  The Specialist also supports the execution of the Office of Institutional Advancement signature events including Alumni Weekend, Founder’s Day and Homecoming.  

We seek a highly motivated, success-driven professional who is excited to make a difference at Virginia State University by engaging alumni and donors to inspire their philanthropic support and engagement. Particular focus will be on acquiring new donors, young alumni programming and strengthening the relationship among students, alumni and friends.  

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Relations, the Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist will work with the Director in executing strategy for alumni and donor engagement through signature events, programming, volunteerism and stewardship.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: Communicate and articulate the vision, mission, goals and core values of the University to alumni and donors. Work with the Director of Alumni Relations to create and sustain loyal supporters and donors through outreach, fundraising, events, and volunteer opportunities. Document alumni engagement metrics and activity in Banner. Manage and oversee the Class Coordinator volunteer program to include training of new volunteers, solicitations, reunion activities and updating alumni contact information. Oversee the Trojan 10 Under 10 Awards Program and develop young alumni engagement programmingWorks collaboratively with the Director for execution of successful alumni and donor engagement events to include but not limited to Homecoming, Alumni Weekend, Alumni Winterfest, Founder’s Day, CIAA Basketball Tournament, Scholarship Donors event, Commencement and the President’s Suite and Box during VSU athletic eventsThis position will assist with story development and writing for the Alumni Magazine, Annual Report and other printed and digital publications. Manage the alumni website and develop a content calendar and campaigns for social media engagement. Work collaboratively with the VSU Alumni Association. Use Banner Advancement to document engagement and meaningful interactions with alumni and donors.  

Qualifications: College graduate from accredited institution and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Experience in project management, event execution and logistics. Applicants must be detailed oriented, organized and articulate and promote the mission and vision of the institution, exhibit enthusiasm, demonstrate a strong work ethic. They must have experience in providing excellent customer service in a high-pressure environment along with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Explorer. Demonstrated experience managing social media pages and campaigns. Valid Driver’s License. Must be able to travel and work outside of regular business hours.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience fundraising for a higher education institution.
