Evening Activities Manager

PURPOSE

Virginia State University is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Evening Activities Manager position in Student Activities. This is a full-time, 12-month position with leadership and administrative assistance.  The position reports to the Executive Director for Student Engagement and Career Services. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs administrative and operational responsibilities during weekends, evening hours, and some daytime hours as required. Interact and collaborate with other campus departments and community partners.  Serve as the primary liaison with the Student Activities Office staff and student organizations sponsoring evening and weekend events. Participate in the supervising of events in terms of safety, security, and staffing.  Set standards for evening part-time staff and student work performance and oversee compliance with the standardized programs. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and procedures as well as staff training and supervision for evening staff. Coordinate and oversee the activities of the second shift custodial staff. Responsible for the overall monitoring and safety of the facility. Respond to an emergency, security, maintenance, or other operational emergencies taking appropriate steps to safeguard the occupants of the facility and maintain services in an orderly fashion.  Maintain documentation of issues and incidents, incurred during evening and weekend hours; prepare reports and inventory records as required.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's degree, in student affairs or a related field or equivalent education and experience. Must have prior experience developing and implementing a program model to facilitate the learning and personal development of college students. Some experience working in a college environment with knowledge and the ability to work as a team player and comprehend University policies and procedures.  Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.  MUST be capable of working a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and some travel; Demonstrated experience in effective decision making, problem-solving, and communication skills (oral and written).  Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds; must be capable of working a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and some travel; and possess effective decision making, problem solving, and communication skills (oral and written).   

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Higher Education with program activities and management experience.
