DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Virginia State University - College of Agriculture (COA) Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research is seeking a dynamic, committed, purpose driven candidate for our Senior Information Technology Support Specialist, Lead (IT Specialist II) position. This positon will be responsible for day-to-day operational leadership for centralized reporting and problem resolution to support users within the College of Agriculture. Oversee and coordinate assigned staff and assist with complex/problem solutions within VSU - COA Information Technology (IT) projects to ensure high quality of IT and customer service delivery across the COA. Serve as the liaison between VSU IT on implementing IT infrastructure, enterprise, and capital projects as well as deploying network upgrades and new services and technologies across the College of Agriculture. Ensure the facilitation and dissemination of information to end-users and stakeholders, as part of the overall communications and change management process. Serve as a technical expert with multimedia, mobile IT platforms, software platforms, livestreaming, field-based, and research lab technologies. Provides leadership for the development of annual budgetary needs, and investment management process that provides for pre-selection/identification, selection, control, and evaluation of business need driven IT investments across the COA. Ensures that all upgrades to technology hardware and software are implemented in a timely manner, staying current with releases, while maintaining the integrity of the technology environments implemented are in compliance with the VITA IT Security Standards and University policies and procedures. Oversees the COA IT Asset Management and ensure that assets and inventories held by the COA are organized by a systematic process, maintained, and kept up to date. Manages third party IT/AV service agreements, mobile satellite and internet plans. Coordinates and organizes regular team meetings, provides supervisory leadership, and periodic reviews, documents, and provide feedback on the work performance of other team members, hourly/part-time staff, and student workers. Must be able to maintain a high-level of confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer information systems, a related discipline or applicable education and experience. Considerable IT user support experience. Experience as an operational team leader, management, supervisor, or leadership role in providing customer service and technical support for software, hardware, and network problems. Highlevel and skilled with time management. Demonstrated ability to direct and operationalize small-mid scale IT projects with current logistical practices in a disciplined manner. Experience with application of vendor patches, fixes, and upgrades is necessary. Demonstrated experience managing IT budgets. Demonstrated proficiency in hardware/software installation and configuration. Knowledge of network topologies, routers, switches, firewalls, and network based hardware and software, including applications and scripting. Understands networking and server management in order to manage and offer expert opinion on infrastructure projects. Skilled in the installation, repair, and troubleshooting of Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as Apple technologies and products; working knowledge of Industry wide ITSM tools a plus as well as A+, MCSE, or MCP certification. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and be adept at tactfully managing a wide array of customers and their needs. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities required. Ability to provide a consistently high level of customer service and reduce technical information to simple language. Ability to clearly document issues so that they may be easily interpreted by other staff. Maintain departmental survey satisfaction of a minimum of 90% overall. Prior experience in a higher educational environment and a Master’s degree is preferred. Prior experience in IT Logistics and operational functions are highly recommended.
