Program Coordinator - TRiO Student Support Services

Virginia State University is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Program Coordinator - TRiO Student Support ServicesThis is a full-time, 12-month, federal grant funded position with leadership and administrative assistance of all SSS grant operations.  Position reports to the Associate Director of TRiO Student Support Services.   

Responsibilities include:  Assist with ensuring programs, workshops, and services are conducted per program objectives. Maintain a participant caseload of at least 60% or 85% participants annually. Provide academic counseling and supportive services to SSS participant caseload.  

Assist with conducting academic needs assessments for all new SSS participants; coordinate appropriate interventions through services such as academic instruction or tutoring; assist with notifying instructors and collection/documentation attendance, progress reports, and evaluations; provide personal, career, financial, and academic counseling to SSS participants per approved objectives.  

Maintain accurate records of participants’ eligibility, participation, and academic progress; and other duties as assigned. Assist with developing and disseminating informational materials about SSS.  Assist with recruitment of 140 program participants annually.  

Works with the Associate Director and participates in various activities and workshops that target student success and retention. Co-Facilitate TRiO workshops and student participation in college activities for each semester. Assist with Collecting and analyzing data needed to complete the US Department of Education’s Annual Performance Reports for SSS.  

Assist with collecting and analyzing data to ensure all student services meet program objectives. Assist with collecting and analyzing data to ensure the SSS program supports the VSU mission and Strategic Plan.  Attend meetings, workshops, conferences, and any other duties necessary for the program operation and continuation. Serve on various university committees as requested. Assist the Associate Director with ensuring that activities and services are provided according to the legislation and regulations of the EDGAR and the U.S. Department of Education that leads to meeting program objectives. Assist Executive Director and Associate Director with data collection and submitting the Annual Performance Report (APR). 

Required qualifications include:  

Working knowledge with federal TRiO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged college students.  Bachelor’s Degree in psychologysocial work, human services, or related field or a combination of education and experience.  

Preferred:  Master’s Degree Preferred in Education, Counseling, or related field or a combination of education and experience from an accredited college or university. 

Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds; must be capable of working a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends and some travel; and possess effective decision making, problem solving and communication skills (oral and written).  Preference will be given to individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the SSS target population.
