Program Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position will serve as liaison for the Mercer Langston Institute for African American Political Leadership; will assist with the coordination and planning of program recruiting efforts; will manage operational and administrative functions that require a thorough knowledge of University policies, procedures, and operations; will maintain departmental website to ensure is fully functional and has accurate and up to date information; will provide technical and program support to the Department Chair; will greet visitors; will answer all telephone and email inquiries; will compose all correspondence and reports to support the Department; will monitor and manage the departmental and Institute’s budget; will order office supplies and equipment; will process travel reimbursements; will assist with coordination and scheduling of our annual JMLI Leadership and Development Conference; and will manage payroll accounting/records of part-time staff.          


Aequivalent combination of training, education, and work experience is required to successfully perform the workmust have the ability to maintain accurate records in a database; must have considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures; must have knowledge and experience using Banner; must have knowledge and experience using eVA (statewide procurement system); must have the ability to set priorities and have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;  must have ability to work independently with little supervision; must have extensive demonstrated knowledge and experience using MS Office Suite, e.g., Outlook, Excel and MS Word, Access, and PowerPoint; must have ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures; must have demonstrated ability to compose and edit correspondence and reports; and must have experience working with the public.  

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration or related discipline.  A Master’s degree preferred with experience in higher education, political campaigns, and/or public education.
