Fall 2017 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following fall 2017 student accomplishments.

(1) Onzae Carter (MISY major) earned a paid IT Business Sustainability internship at Brison.

(2) Myia Jones (Marketing major) was selected to study abroad in Shanghai. She will depart in January.

(3) Jaquan Burnell (Management major) shadowed Glen Childress (CEO) of Bizport in Richmond.

(4) Steven Terry (Marketing major) participated in the Friday Forum with marketing executives at the VCU Brandcenter.

(5) Krystal Whidbee (MISY major) earned a full-time position for after graduation at IBM in northern Virginia.

(6) Laneisha Smith (Management/HR major) and Naya Hill (Management/HR major) participated in the REB Teacher Excellence Awards Show in Richmond at the Virginia Historical Society.

(7) Racheal Ajibolade (MISY major) was awarded a seat on the new Metropolitan Business League (MBL) junior advisory board.

(8) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) earned the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) fall 2017 scholarship.

(9) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major) participated in the Impact Awards dinner event with over three hundred businesses in Richmond.

(10) Jasmine Johnson (Accounting major) earned a full-time accounting job for after graduation in May at Allmond & Company in Maryland. Jasmine resides in D.C. so it is most convenient.

(11) Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship for the summer at the Federal Reserve in Richmond.

(12) Jada Palmer (Management major) earned a position as a police-officer in training in Richmond for after graduation. A special acknowledgment to Taneisha Brown who is Jada’s mentor.

(13) Deante Barkley (Marketing major) participated in a networking event in Petersburg with Reggie Tabor (Director of Petersburg Economic Development) along with a dozen businesses.

(14) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) and Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) participated in the Commercial Real Estate for Women (CREW) Leadership Symposium at the Hotel John Marshall in Richmond with 100 businesses.

(15) Steven Terry (Marketing major) participated in the Madison + Main chili cook-off with leading companies like ESPN, CBS, Richmond Times Dispatch, Richmond International Raceway, etc.

(16) Racheal Ajibolade, Onzae’ Carter, Bobby Harper, Erica Pickens, and Sam Smith participated in Project Shadow with senior leadership at Thomson Reuters at their cyber security facility in Richmond yesterday.

(17) Diamond Sims (Marketing major) earned a paid marketing internship for the spring semester for the U.S. Army at Fort Lee.

(18) Chanel Brown (Marketing major) earned a paid internship for the spring in marketing for the U.S. Army at Fort Lee.

(19) Donea Brooks (Marketing major) earned a spring internship with Haase Construction.

(20) L’Nique Freeman (Management major) earned a spring internship with Crystal’s Spa.

(21) Cheyanne Thomas (Marketing major) earned a spring internship with Waukeshaw Development.

(22) Aaron Fuller (Management major and May 17 grad) earned a position as a Retirement Consultant at the Virginia Retirement System.

(23) Sam Kelly (Management major and 16 grad) earned a position as the Regional Marketing Director for Homefix Custom Remodeling.

(24) Gabrielle Juriel (MISY major) interviewed for a Help Desk Technician position with our friends at Networking Technologies + Support (NTS).

(25) Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by John Tyler Community College, University of Richmond, Shamin Hotels, Northrop Grumman, ChamberRVA, Townes Consulting, and the City of Richmond.

(26) Marvin Lee (Management major) interviewed for a logistics management position with our friends at Sabra.

(27) A double digit group of students were admitted in to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

(28) Marcus Lowery (Marketing major), Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major), and Steven Terry (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by HKS, Bank of America, Brison, and Mr. Charlie Hill (Board of Visitors).

(29) Cameron Wynn (Management major and 15 grad) earned a new position as a Supervisor at Fortune 500 Supervalu in Richmond, was admitted to William and Mary to earn his M.B.A., and just had a baby girl with his wife.

(30) Eliza Dizon (MISY major and 16 grad) earned a new position as a Linux System Administrator for the Department of Homeland Security.

(31) Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) was the Top-Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Magellan Health Care and Savvy J Consulting.

(32) Over ninety students participated in Human Kind Day including participating in hands-on financing role-play activities. A big thanks to Steve Holeman and to Young Dimpkah for their hospitality in the classroom(s).

(33) Over forty students participated in Blue Cross Blue Shield Day with College of Business alum Keith Bagby (Senior Underwriter).

(34) Fifteen students participated in a photo shoot with Dave McCormack (Owner of Waukeshaw Development).

(35) Ashley Davis (Management major), Jevon Eason (Management major), Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) and Steven Terry (Marketing major) participated in a dinner with Whitney Harris (ABC News Reporter).

(36) Jujuan Peel (Management major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Dynex Capital, Winter HR Consulting, Smart Beginnings, ChildSavers, Northrop Grumman, Bon Air @ the Village, and WRIC.

(37) Over fifty students participated in IBM Day.

(38) Miesha Webb (Accounting major) participated in an Encorepreneur networking event with over 100 companies in Richmond.

(39) Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) and Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Marketing major) participated in TEDxRVA talks with over 100 businesses in Richmond and helped facilitate conversations about refugees and human rights.

(40) Mark Grant (Accounting major), Quenyana Gray (Marketing minor), Michaela Nelson (Marketing major), and Stephanie Osafo (Accounting major) were inducted in the Golden Key Honor Society.

(41) Sabria Butler (Marketing minor) and Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Lumos Networks, Dominion, VDOT, and the Richmond Education Association.

(42) Erica Pickens (MISY major) interviewed for a full-time IT position with the City of Richmond.

(44) Juwaun House (Marketing major) and Mahogany Smith (Management major) interviewed for a paid position with Wright Advice.

(45) Kapri Armstead (Management/HR major), Liam Fahy (Management major), and Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) participated in a film shoot for a new VSU television commercial.

(46) Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) participated in a Thrive entrepreneurship workshop with twenty businesses in Richmond.

(47) Seventy students participated in a Back to School alumni panel conversation with a dozen companies including e.g. the Federal Reserve, Dominion, KPMG, etc.

(48) Kapri Armstead (Management/HR major) participated in Project Shadow with Judy Gibson (HR Director at NBC) in Richmond.

(49) Rachel Ajibolade (MISY major) and Brandon Green (MISY major) participated in a Java Users Group IT networking function in Richmond with forty companies.

(50) Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) was the Top-Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the CapTech, CG Performance Consultants, Nfina Technologies, and City of Richmond.

(51) Ninety students participated in Eli Lilly Day.

(52) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) helped host the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce luncheon on campus for twenty businesses.

(53) Sabria Butler (Marketing minor), Ra’Quan Taylor (Accounting major), Rebekah Taylor (Management major), and Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) participated in the Thurgood Marshall Leadership Conference in D.C.

(54) Keana Walker (Management major) earned a paid internship doing marketing for The New Virginia Majority. Keana also works for Shamin Hotels.

(55) Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) earned a paid internship doing marketing for The New Virginia Majority. Marcus also interns for the Progress Index doing marketing.

(56) Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Accounting major) participated in a CultureWorks networking event with thirty companies in Richmond.

(57) Fifteen students participated in Center for Entrepreneurship workshops with Todd Nuckols (CEO of Lighthouse Labs) and Pat Clement (CEO of JumpStarz).

(58) Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) participated in a Young Professional Networking Group with forty companies in Richmond.

(59) Catera Ruth (MISY major) and Larry Stephens (Marketing major) participated in a Richmond Region Tourism networking event along with Chesterfield County Economic Development in Chester.

(60) Twenty students participated in Chesterfield County Public Library Day.

(61) Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) participated in a Betsy Carr (Member of House of Delegates) networking event in Richmond.

(62) Steven Terry (Marketing major) was the Top-Performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the Federal Reserve, Deloitte, Department of Labor and Industry, Thompson Hospitality, CGI, YBConnects, and Dale Carnegie.

(63) Two-hundred students participated in Deloitte Day.

(64) Fifteen students participated in a Bridging the Gap workshop with ten alumni.

(65) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Relations minor) earned an internship at the Virginia’s Gateway Region.

(66) Mabertine Pierre (Management major), Mahogany Smith (Management/HR major), and Sydney Yao (Marketing minor) participated in Project Shadow with Rita McClenny (CEO) at the Virginia Tourism Corporation.

(67) Chanel Brown (Marketing major), Jevon Eason (Management major), and Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) participated in a Wall Street networking event with industry at the University of Richmond.

(68) Twenty-eight students participated in the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) conference in Norfolk with scores of companies.

(69) Eight students participated in the Financial Literacy Leadership Conference in Alexandria.

(70) Grace Ampong (Accounting major) and Marcus Lowery (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by KPMG, Cobb Technologies, Bizport, Radio One, and Leap Innovation Group.

(71) Seventeen students participated in Waffle House Day.

(72) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) earned a marketing internship with the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce.

(73) Steven Terry (Marketing major) earned an internship for the fall semester with Richmond Magazine.

(74) Terrell Shepherd (Accounting major) interviewed for a full-time position with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

(75) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with John Brandt (Executive Director) of the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce.

(76) Twenty-five students hosted Angela Patton (President of Girls for a Change) in the classroom. A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for her hospitality.

(77) Twenty students participated in a Center for Entrepreneurship workshop with JJ White (Owner of Dale Carnegie).

(78) Ten students participated in a Dodd-Frank workshop with Linda Melton (VP at Fulton Brank) and Matthew Cheek (Attorney at Williams Mullen). A big thanks to J. Pandian for his hospitality.

(79) Sabria Butler (Marketing minor), Marcus Lowery (Marketing major), and Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by ESI, Baker International, SCORE, Abingdon Group, and Cornerstone Architects.

(80) Five students interviewed with Big Brothers Big Sisters to mentor in Petersburg Public Schools.

(81) Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with Michelle Cosely (Recruiter) at the Federal Reserve.

(82) Marquai Randolph (MISY major) and Sam Smith (MISY major) participated in Project Shadow with Richard Puckett (Vice President) at Thomson Reuters.

(83) Deandre Atkinson (Marketing major), Destiny Hodges (Marketing major), Ai’Jalon McGhee (Marketing major), Tamara Parker (Management major), Mabertine Pierre (Management major), and Diamond Sims (Marketing major) participated in a Madison + Main media mixer in Richmond with thirty businesses.

(84) Twenty-seven students participated in all-day workshops at Genworth in Richmond. A big thanks to Rae Morgan for facilitating.

(85) Twenty-five students hosted JB Bryan (President of JB Bryan Financial Group) in the classroom. A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for her hospitality.

(86) Twenty students participated in Tree Campus USA Day and planted trees, bushes, and flowers. A big thanks to Alex Weimer for facilitating.

(87) Thirty-five students participated in Thomson Reuters Day including interfacing with senior executive leadership.

(88) Sabria Butler (Marketing minor), Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major), and Steven Terry (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Tax Business Alliance, Fort Lee Federal Credit Union, Northrop Grumman, Wells Fargo, Lincoln Financial, and Transact Capital.

(89) Hale’ Gray (Management major), Nadia Victor (Accounting major), and Shayla Weatherhead (Marketing major) met with Beth Von Kelsch (Director of Marketing at Enteros Design ) and Wert Smith (Owner of Owen Printing) at Longstreets.

(90) Fifteen students participated in the re-launch of the American Marketing Association chapter at VSU.

(91) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Business Minor), Brittany Palmer (Management major), and Jujuan Peel (Management major) participated in a Lead Virginia networking event with twenty-five businesses at LeClair Ryan in Richmond.

(92) Deandre Atkinson (Marketing major), Jaylin Crawley (Management major), Tamara Parker (Management major), and Emmanuel Pierre-Louis (Accounting major) participated in a Walter Cornett PRO golf tournament at Lake Chesdin with dozens of small businesses.

(93) Tavieo Miles (Management Information Systems major) and Sam Smith (Management Information Systems Major) participated in a ribbon cutting for Thomson Reuters at the new cyber security facility in Richmond at an event attended by Governor McAuliffe and Mayor Stoney.

(94) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Business Minor), Brittany Palmer (Management major), and Jujuan Peel (Management major) participated in an Urban League Young Professionals networking event with dozens of business in Richmond.

(95) Scores of students participated in the Career Services Career Expo with over forty employers and additionally participated in workshops with e.g. Deloitte and IBM.

(96) Over thirty students participated in Wednesday Workshops in the Center for Entrepreneurship and learned from Tom Bandy (Owner of BandyWorks) and Russ Morton (Owner of Plush Slippers).

(97) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark (International Business minor) participated in Project Shadow with Justine Mulholland (Project Manager at the City of Richmond, Economic Development).

(98) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major), Marcus Lowery (Marketing major), Jermaine Perrine (Accounting major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Eli Lilly, Sandler Training, State Farm, Island Hospitality, and Crater Hospice.

(102) Fifteen students participated in Institute for Real Estate Management Day with Terry Nero (Account Executive at the Highlands).

(103) Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with Doug and Polly White (Owners of Gather) in Richmond.

(104) Thirty students hosted Dease Moore (Senior Engineer at ePlus) in the classroom. A big thanks to Patrice Perry-Rivers!

(105) Ai’Jalon McGhee (Marketing major) spent the day shadowing Whitney Harris on the TV set at ABC News.

(106) Over two hundred students participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters Day and sixty students signed up to mentor and/or learn more about mentoring Petersburg Public Schools’ students at Walnut Hill Elementary.

(107) Kyla Frank (Management major) earned a fall internship with Next Gen America.

(108) Over one hundred students participated in Coast Guard Day.

(109) Eighty students participated in Wednesday Workshops in the Center for Entrepreneurship and learned from Doug and Polly White (Owners of Gather), Gayle Turner (Owner of Story Tellers Channel), and Isaiah Jennings and Shod Chambers (Owners of GroupedN).

(110) Trevon Byron (Management major and May grad) earned a Pit Crew job with NASCAR in Daytona; Trevon will be one of the guys that you see on TV putting wheels on cars at the races.

(111) Asjah Royal (Management major and 16 grad) earned an Accounts Representative position at WestRock in Richmond.

(113) Bryana Thomas (Marketing major) earned a Digital and Social Media Internship for the semester in the College of Agriculture.

(114) Bria Brothers (Marketing major), Keyshonna Curry (Marketing major), and Shayla Weatherhead (Marketing major) earned internships at the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

(120) Imani Tynes-McClain (MISY major) participated in a Java Users Group networking event with forty IT professionals in Richmond.

(121) Brandon Green (MISY major) participated in a Metropolitan Business League networking event with twenty businesses in Richmond.

(122) Kyla Frank (Management major) and Saraphina Mensah (Accounting major) participated in a Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce networking event with fifty business in Chesterfield.

(123) Forty students participated in SafeLink Wireless Day.

(124) Thirty students hosted Laschrecse Aird (Member, House of Delegates) in the classroom for Management Seminar and Organizational Behavior and Leadership. A big thanks to J. Pandian for his hospitality.

(125) Forty students hosted recent grads Jhadee Gordon and Tanika Mann (both KPMG) in the classroom. A big thanks to Louis Dabney and Alex Weimer for their hospitality.

(126) Tarik Floyd (Marketing major and 16 grad) was admitted to Harvard University to participate in a post-grad program.

(127) Kaylee Lambert (Marketing minor) participated in the southern regional DECA competition as a judge at Dinwiddie High School where she assessed student performance and helped to decide what students advance to statewide competition.

(128) Ty-Li Brickus-Clark earned a paid position with our friends at Virginia’s Gateway Region. Ty-Li had been interning for Virginia’s Gateway Region and her performance realized in a position.

(129) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) participated in a networking event with industry at The James House where she represented the College of Business.

(130) Tim Sloan (Management major and May grad) has earned a Sales Associate position with our friends at State Farm. His office is 5 minutes from his house in Emporia.

(131) DeAnna Waters (Management major and 15 grad) earned a Program Assistant position at the Smithsonian in D.C.

(132) Marnelle FanFan (Management major and 14 grad) has been admitted to graduate school at Liberty University to earn her M.B.A.

(133) Blair Jeffress (Accounting major and 14 grad) has earned a Fund Accountant position at Maitland in Richmond.

(134) Zacara Dunn (Marketing major and May grad) has been admitted to graduate school to her M.B.A. at Montclair State University in her home state of New Jersey.

(135) Jenae Moore (Management major and May grad) has accepted a position as the Hotel Manager at the Aloft in Birmingham, Alabama.

(136) Marquai Randolph (MISY major) has earned a paid summer internship in IT Inventory for the City of Richmond.

(137) Darryl Reynolds (MISY minor and 16 grad) earned a new position as a Factory Network Designer at Boeing.

(138) Bobby Harper (MISY major) has secured an IT internship with our friends at the State Corporation Commission.

(139) Danielle Stanback (Management major) earned a job at the Comcast call center in Richmond.

(140) Mabertine Pierre (Management major) earned an internship at the Virginia Department of Health. Mabertine will coordinate a conference and be responsible for PR working alongside our friend Brian Little. Mabertine is our second student to work for Brian; Marnelle Fanfan worked for Brian when he was at Petersburg Tourism.

(142) Bashirah Bostic (Accounting major and May grad) has been hired as a Tax Administrative Assistant at Tax Solutions Alliance. Bashirah so impressed our friend Vaughan Long that he is creating a position for her after we referred Bashirah for a job.

(143) Jeffrey Thomas (Management major) earned an internship at State Farm in Richmond.

(144) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) won the Commercial Real Estate for Women 2017 Scholarship!!!! Sadonia is now our third young lady to win this scholarship after Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) and Alana Dawson (Marketing major and 14 grad) previously won the award.

(146) Mahogany Smith (Management/HR major) represented the College at the Colonial Heights High School College/Career Fair today and recruited scores of students.

(147) Racheal Ajibolade (MISY major), Jasmine Baskett (Marketing major) Jevon Eason (Management major), Ivanka Ocloo (Management major), Lette Ocloo (Management major), Kamya Reid (Management major), and Terrill Shephard (Accounting major) participated in Mission Tomorrow for an all-day event at Richmond International Raceway. Specifically, our seven students helped host 8,000 middle-school students for a career/college awareness event. It is important to point out that our students were widely recognized as the stars of the show! Over 100 companies and colleges participated and had some very incredible props but our students actually taught the students and had the children engaged! They led a Jeopardy brand awareness gameshow!
