Agriculture Specialist II

Duties and responsibilities

The Aquaculture Technician will implement procedures and maintain a sustainable aquaculture system for research and demonstrations and provide educational opportunities to agents, teachers, youth and others in building and maintaining living systems.   

Aquaculture System Management and Maintenance
Maintain the aquaculture system (in the Harding Street Urban Agricultural Center - UAC) utilizing basic principles and protocols of fish biology and education to manage fish health and welfare throughout all aquaculture tasks.

Outreach and Education
Assist in developing and presenting educational modules related to the aquaculture and agricultural aspects of the UACC and assist in field days and other extension related activities.

Future Funding for the UAC
Participate in research and demonstrations related to the aquaculture system and prepare reports to support funding of the grant/project.

Teamwork and Support of the Mission of the Center and Related Grants
Work within a team environment on all aspects of the operation of the UAC facility.

Required qualifications

  • Knowledge of the basic principles and protocols of aquaculture and fish biology and ability to manage fish health and welfare throughout all aquaculture tasks.
  • Some experience in basic mechanical systems, preventative actions and repairs, and some knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems. 
  • Ability to facilitate informative educational workshops on aquaculture and agriculture to visitors to the UAC.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.
