Information Technology Specialist II

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek a dynamic, committed, purpose driven candidate for our Senior Web Developer (IT Technology Specialist II) position.

The University is under new leadership and as a result, is currently enjoying a surge in the number of its’ incoming students. The Senior Web Developer position will provide lead technical support in the development of the VSU Website in collaboration with VSU constituents and third-party vendors, performing web application programming, content management, web data analysis, and training.

This position provides lead technical support in the enterprise Web Content Management system (Cascade Server) in order to ensure the University’s brand and marketing strategies are consistent with the web design and web policies. Design and implement web pages and other web solutions for the University’s web and mobile properties. Maintains and updates the University websites with content and dynamic features. Regularly fixes and/or eliminates site issues and problems. Handles multiple web programming projects and be involved in planning, executing, monitoring/controlling, and closing projects. Proactively and effectively communicates project status and issues with peers and management.

This position aids in the preparation of detailed technical specification, instructions, and reviews the work of junior project team members to ensure compliance with standards/specifications and other guidelines. Develops high level system, functional specifications, test cases, and test results. Test and validate University Web applications by developing test scripts, interpreting results, and making recommendations. Takes part in the development of effective reporting tools for the business departments to monitor web traffic on its site. Help Web services management analyze the web sites activities and trends and compare analysis against the services and standards and best practices. Utilizes web site data analysis tools such as Google Analytics and other tracking tools to capture, analyze, and report on VSU web traffic, demographics, and other related data as it pertains to VSU web properties. Other duties as assigned by the CIO and/or Web Services Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and/or Fireworks.  Competence with PHP and doing development on a Linux operating system.  Experience using any modern Content Management System such as Drupal, Joomla, Word Press and Cascade Server, in particular.  Considerable experience in Javascript, HTML, XHTML, CSS, and/or other web development tools. Proven analytical and problem-solving activities. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors, and the public. 

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Designer/Graphics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a higher education environment preferred.
