Registered Nurse II  


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position will provide quality care in the treatment of routine and urgent outpatient problems during clinic operation hours; will maintain the confidentiality of medical matters; will promote wellness among students in a health care facility where physician availability is limited; will assess the physical state of students through assessment; will make the appropriate diagnosis and executing treatment plan; will order and interpret diagnostic tests; will provide screenings, interventions, counseling, and prescribe medication; will assess, diagnose, and treat common illnesses for college-age patients, to include gynecological exams; will utilize the appropriate pharmaceutical agents in the treatment of illnesses using guidelines outlined by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy, Boards of Nursing and Medicine; will provide health-related counseling for students and the referrals to the appropriate agencies; will assist the director in assuring efficient and orderly clinic operations; will represent University Health Service to external entities as assigned by the Director; and will promote positive interactions with students, parents, private health care providers and other university departments and visitors. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be a Licensed Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia; successful completion of an accredited nursing program; board certified as a Family or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner; current CPR, First Aid, and BLS certified.  
 

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

Must have working knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, treatment/planning and execution in the area of certification; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff and other professionals outside of the student health center; must have ability to document findings accurately and thoroughly; must be able to recognize legal limits of practice; must have experience obtaining and interpreting clinical data and draw satisfactory conclusions; and to access emergency situations and take appropriate actions.
