PR & Marketing Specialist III  

Virginia State University (VSU) invites applications for the Alumni Relations Specialist.  Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations the responsible for the engagement and cultivation of VSU’s alumni, parents and friends.  The Alumni Relations Specialist also provides administrative support for the Office of Alumni Relations, supports the execution of Institutional Advancement signature events including Alumni Weekend, Founder’s Day and Homecoming.


The Alumni Relations Specialist supports the Director of Alumni Relations by executing communication strategies, event logistics, event execution and administrative support, which engages alumni, parents, students and friends of Virginia State University.  The Alumni Relations Specialist manages communication on behalf of Institutional Advancement.  This includes drafting and mailing correspondence letters, notes and graphic design, documenting class notes, preparing condolence and congratulatory correspondence, invitations, monitors and manages all social media channels, alumni relations website and email accounts.  The Alumni Relations Specialist is required to document all interaction within Banner Advancement and update all consistent records as required.  The Alumni Relations Specialist actively provides content for inclusion in the Alumni Magazine, IA Email Newsletters, VSU Web pages and IA Alumni Relations Web Pages.
The Alumni Relations Specialist ensures that there is representation from Institutional Advancement at VSU Alumni Association Chapter Meetings, key alumni events and other signature programming.  The Alumni Relations Specialist also provides logistical support for events including arrangements, scheduling, necessary purchase orders and the creation of the Event Function Sheets. They will also adhere to all budget and purchasing procedures as required to execute events on and off campus.  They will provide office and administrative support for the Office of Alumni Relations and Institutional Advancement as required and needed. 


College graduate from accredited institution and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Dedication to the mission and goals of Virginia State University. A minimum of three years of experience in project management, event execution, alumni relations support with preference in a higher education environment.  Applicants must be detailed oriented, organized and have the ability to convey and promote the mission and vision of the institution, exhibit enthusiasm, demonstrate a strong work ethic. They must have experience in providing excellent customer service in a high-pressure environment along with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
