Transportation Operator II
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Virginia State University is seeking a qualified professional to provide safe and efficient transportation services to the University community, consisting of faculty, staff, and/or students. The incumbent will: transport individuals on local and long distance trips using University buses, provide assistance to the FAACS staff in the pickup and delivery of surplus furniture and equipment from various apartments on campus, provide assistance to Central receiving for the receiving and delivering of goods, and assist with the preparation and transportation and of surplus items to sale or disposal locations. Vehicle maintenance responsibilities include: regular parts and components checks for proper operation, inspections of belts, hoses, tires, brakes, gauges, mirrors, windshield wipers, horns and lights; checks all fluid levels; and refueling.
High School graduate or equivalent is required. A valid Commercial Driver’s license with passenger endorsement is required. Applicants must have a good driving record and considerable years of experience driving a bus. Applicants must have demonstrated strong customer service skills, including communications skills and the ability to coordinate and manage large groups of people. Successful candidate must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
