Human Resource Analyst I

The mission of Human Resources is to provide services in recruitment, benefits administration, consulting professional and organizational development and retention for administrators, faculty, staff and prospective employees of Virginia State University for the purpose of fostering the development of our students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lawfully and procedurally administer recruitment/selection and hiring functions for the University’s faculty, administrator/professional faculty, classified, and hourly positions. Serve as HR Employment Specialist/Consultant to assigned departments/hiring officials to maintain optimal employment levels.  Working knowledge of other functional areas of HR to include talent acquisition, classification, compensation, benefits and HRIS. Assist managers in the hiring process and assuring an efficient recruitment process for faculty and classified roles.  Responsible for ensuring a smooth onboarding process for new employees, for the proper and professional new hire experience.  Develop and conduct training seminars for hiring managers, selection committees and staff employees.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of human resource policies and procedures related to recruitment and selection. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply human resource principles and practices, including federal and state laws and regulations and policies to recruitment and selection functions. Demonstrated ability to analyze issues and reach logical and supportable conclusions; to counsel and advise managers and employees on recruitment activities; to communicate effectively in formal and informal presentations and in writing; and, to produce written material using creative forms of communication for diverse audiences. Considerable skill in the use of Microsoft office suite and Human Resource Information Systems, i.e. PMIS, RMS, Banner.

Graduation from a college or university with coursework in personnel administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating the possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities preferred. Some knowledge of training and education processes and group facilitation processes
