
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. the first
African-American sorority, was founded on the campus of Howard University on
January 15,1908. Led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, sixteen ladies saw the necessity to
unite themselves together and maintain high morals, poise, leadership qualities,
and to be of “Service to All Mankind”. Since Alpha Kappa Alpha’s
conception the sisterhood has blossomed into membership of well over 100,000,
including chapters in the United States, West Africa, Germany, Europe and the
Virgin Islands.
The Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated was founded May 15,1926 on the campus of Virginia State
University. With “Service to All Mankind” as the sorority motto, the
Alpha Epsilon chapter strives to uplift the campus and community with various
endeavors, such as tutoring at the Baptist Children’s Home, candlelight vigil
for the homeless, Highway and Campus clean -up, Annual Freshman Tea and Ice
Cream Social. The colors are salmon pink and apple green.
