PETERSBURG-- Last night Virginia State University served as host to the 2013 Men’s and Women’s Intramural Basketball Championships (IBC). The women’s game featured No. 1 seeded Young Lady Ballers (YLB) (9-2) taking on the No. 2 seeded Smoking Aces (8-3).

Smoking Aces forward Kristal Kelly led all scorers with 16 points and 7 rebounds as her team went on to bypass YBL with a final score of 49-36.

For the men, No.1 seeded Final Destination (9-0) went head to head with the Got Heart Boyz (5-3), who upset the No. 2 seeded Snake Season the night before in a nail biter, 37-36. At the half, the game was completely one sided between the two teams, but no one in the crowd was prepared for the outstanding performance by Epic Records Recording Artist, Marcus Canty. He won the crowd over with his amazing talent and brought the house down with his serenade to one of the audience members. He closed halftime with his hit single, “Used By You” and stayed after for a meet and greet with the awaiting VSU fans.

Final Destinations’ Abdul Menzies led all scorers with 15 points and 5 Rebounds as he pushed his team to a victory over the Got Heart Boyz who played with tremendous heart but couldn’t close it out. The final score was 80-41. Final Destination are back to back IBC Champions.
