2018 VSU Black Psychology Conference

The Department of Psychology at Virginia State University (VSU) will hold the Seventh Black Psychology Research Conference on April 13 and 14, 2018 at Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia. A major goal of the conference is to highlight the outstanding research of undergraduate and graduate students at partnering institutions and to promote leadership and community engagement among the participants.

The conference will also serve as a platform to encourage the development of professional networks between faculty and students at respective institutions. The keynote speaker for the conference is Dr. Margaret Beale Spencer, Marshall Field IV Professor of Urban Education and Chairperson in the Department of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago.

The conference will be organized around paper and poster presentations, with professional development workshops and a graduate school recruitment fair. We invite submissions for presentations from students representing all sub-disciplines of psychology. Submissions from undergraduate and graduate students conducting research in fields relevant to psychology (e.g., sociology) or incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives (e.g., Psychology and Political Science) are also welcome.

Proposal submission deadlines and guidelines

Proposals for presentations should be 250 words or less. Works-in-progress as well as completed research are welcomed. Ideally, each submission will include a very brief review of literature; (proposed) methods; (expected) findings; and implications. For work-in-progress submissions, substantial progress toward completion is expected by the date of the conference presentation.
The deadline for submission is March 5, 2018. Notification of acceptance will be provided no later than March 16, 2018. During the conference, students will be allotted 15-minutes to give their paper presentation.
Proposals should be submitted electronically at Call for Abstracts or by copying and pasting the following link into your browser:
