Services Offered by the Office of Substance Abuse and Sexual Assault Substance Abuse and Sexual Assault, two critical issues facing college students today, is disruptive to the living and learning environment of an academic setting and presents a significant risk to the safe and successful completion of a college career. Virginia State University, like other institutions of high learning, has become increasingly aware of the negative impact of substance abuse and sexual assault on student academic performance and campus life. VSU's Office of Substance Abuse and Sexual Assault Prevention: Educates students about the health risks, high-risk behaviors and consequences associated with substance abuse to promote informed and responsible decision making. Develops and co-sponsors prevention and risk-reduction programs to raise awareness and reduce the risk of sexual assault. Provides educational programs for students who violate the Alcohol and Drug Policy. Provides assessment, counseling and referral services to students with substance abuse issues. Maintains a resource room of current research, statistical data, posters, brochures and videos. Organizes and provides training and technical assistance to the peer education program. Co-sponsors events with campus organizations to enable students to become active participants in promoting a safe environment.
