Admission

Student Timeline

Student seeking admission into the Teacher Education program at VSU must complete an application and meet the following requirements:

  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • C or above in all professional education and content area coursework
  • Passing scores on the Praxis I assessment
  • Successful interview with the Admission and Retention Committee with no dispositional issues noted

The Virginia State University Professional Education Unit has identified the following dispositions for undergraduate candidates:

  • Candidates will demonstrate a respect for the accepted legal and ethical norms and values of education, schools, and the community.

  • Candidates will demonstrate a respect for and sensitivity to all learners.

  • Candidates will demonstrate a belief that all students can learn.

  • Candidates will demonstrate a high level of emotional maturity.

  • Candidates will demonstrate a value of effective communication skills.

  • Candidates will demonstrate positive interpersonal skills.

  • Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to continuous reflection, personal improvement, inquiry and application of research-based best practices in education
