Description

Formerly Hotel Restaurant and Institutional Management, the name was changed to Hospitality Management to reflect the trends in hospitality education. The objective of the program is to provide broad-based educational experiences needed by students to become competitive in the 21st century and beyond. Hospitality Management reflects a broad industry to include hotels, restaurants, travel tourism, recreation, retail, and convention and meeting planning.

Course activities are designed based on the subject area, current and future trends of the industry. The curriculum remains in a mode of continuous improvement in response to changes in the global hospitality and tourism industry. The Hospitality Management Program approaches its mission with a curriculum that reflects real world scenarios and experiences. The program provides numerous opportunities for students to practice their hospitality skills in a state of the art facility, fully-equipped with cutting-edge hotel technology and food service equipment and wired classrooms. Students participate in laboratory experiences and are required to complete two supervised internships to prepare them for the operational challenges of the industry.

We invest in your future by developing group interaction and networking skills, leadership abilities and interpersonal dexterity that are essential for effective leaders. Our goal is that every Virginia State University Hospitality Management student graduates with a degree, but also the business skills, knowledge and experience required for long-term success in the world's number one industry; the hospitality industry.
