Dear HMP Students:
It is once again my pleasure to welcome new and returning students to VSU and the Hospitality Management Program. I hope your summer has been a relaxing, fun filled and productive and I look forward to getting to know each and every one of the new students and hearing the reports on internship and other experiences gained over the summer break by the returning students.
This is an exciting time in the life of the VSU and the Hospitality Management Program. VSU has said goodbye to President Moore and welcomed its 13th President Keith T. Miller. President Miller brings hope for the future...As he stated in his inaugural address “There will be change...As frightening as it may be it is upon us...But we will create that change ourselves, with well thought out initiatives and strategies and collaborative decision-making…. The future is ours - LITERALLY…through teamwork, communication and a student first mentality we will move the university forward to realize its vision of success.”
The 2010-2011 school year will no doubt be a challenging time for us as a university, with unprecedented institutional changes taking place; nonetheless we will move forward positively!
At the departmental level, Dr. Corley, The Chairman and Interim Administrator has moved on to higher office in the university and we are in a state of reorganization. The biggest priority for Hospitality Management is that we face program re-accreditation from (ACPHA) the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration. We are scheduled for a site visit in October. Your assistance and cooperation will be needed to help us in this process of continuous improvement. More information to come….
It takes everybody, everyday working diligently together in this program, conveying the same message and focusing on the same mission to elevate the HMP. Teamwork gives us the best opportunity to turn vision into reality. Our numbers have risen due to freshman enrollment rate, change of major students, and student recruitment. I challenge each HMP student to be an Ambassador for the major and recruit one student.
Last year we kicked off the “Each one bring one” campaign at the Hospitality Town Hall meeting in August and so far this campaign has been successful. A big thank you to those who worked hard so hard to make the program successful!!
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
