Description The future electronics engineering technologist will study theory and practice in all areas of electronics using modern electronic and microprocessor laboratories. He/she will become familiar with all the areas of electronics, including analog and digital integrated circuits, instrumentation, discrete power devices, electronic communications and control devices. This hardware oriented program provides students with knowledge of currently established design and laboratory techniques. The laboratory facilities will be supplemented by the use of video resources, microprocessor trainers, and the use of computers to solve problems and design analog and digital circuits. The department of Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Education and Technology offers the Bachelor of Science with a major in electronics engineering technology. This degree provides technical preparation with an emphasis on laboratory and problem-solving skills which will help in preparing for employment in all areas of electronics, including microprocessor-based systems, digital and analog communications, digital and analog control, electrical power, microwave systems, and industrial control and automation. Many of the department's alumni hold technical and managerial positions nationwide. Our electronics engineering technology program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET). Mission The mission of the engineering Technology program is to ensure that graduates can successfully employ knowledge generally considered to be part of the fields of electronics and electrical engineering technology. This includes developing an understanding of the need for continuous learning through structured education, applied research, and professional affiliation. It provides students with a quality engineering technology education that links theory and application, and that gives students enhanced career opportunities. The department's goals supporting this mission are: 1) to provide educational and social environments that promote and facilitate student learning; 2) to have a highly respected and noticeable program; 3) to foster the development of the program; and 4) to graduate students who are competent and sought after by industry. Objective Our electronics engineering technology graduates will demonstrate the skills appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of the discipline. The graduates will demonstrate an ability to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics, science, engineering and technology, an ability to conduct, analyze and interpret experiments and apply experimental results to improve processes and apply creativity in the design of systems, components or processes appropriate to program objectives. They will be able to function effectively on teams and be able to identify, analyze and solve technical problems. They will display an ability to communicate effectively, to recognize the need for and possess the ability to pursue lifelong learning, to understand professional, ethical and social responsibilities, to recognize contemporary professional, societal and global issues and be aware of and respect diversity, and to have a commitment to quality, timeliness and continuous improvement. Electronics engineering technologists have a wide range of careers and job positions open to them because they know how to analyze a problem, and more importantly, they know how to fix the problem. Graduates are recruited by most major technological companies in the U.S. they are employed across the technological spectrum, but are better suited to areas that deal with application, implementation, and production, as opposed to the conceptual design and research functions. The technical sales and customer services fields also account for many placements. Electronics engineering technology is a profession in which knowledge of mathematics and natural sciences gained by higher education, experience, and practice is devoted primarily to the implementation and extension of existing technology for the benefit of humanity. Electronics engineering technology education focuses primarily on the applied aspects of science and engineering aimed at preparing graduates for practice in that portion of the technological spectrum closest to the product improvement, manufacturing, and engineering operational functions. |
