DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Virginia State University is seeking a highly skilled computer systems professional to provide computer technology support to the human resource staff and serve as the HR liaison with the Office of University Technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing Banner-HR and developing and producing reports utilizing Banner-HR, such as, Vacancy listing, New Hire report, Faculty Tenure Status, IPEDS and other ad hoc reports. As a member of the Banner Steering Committee, the incumbent will be responsible for reviewing documentation for Banner-HR, and complete testing of the system upgrades. As the assigned security officer for Banner HR, the candidate will develop and assign system security levels for end users. In addition, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership and training to staff, and maintain HR web-site. The incumbent serves as the manager of leave reporting and records management. This position is a member of the Human Resource Management Team and participates in the strategic planning activities, with specific emphasis in the technology arena.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable skill in the use of Banner SunGard, specifically, Banner-HR. Considerable knowledge of SQL, Web Focus and Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Access, various database software and basic PC hardware applications). Working knowledge of human resource management, specifically, FLSA; and, of the Commonwealth of Virginia HR systems (PMIS); and, of the Commonwealth of Virginia leave system (CIPPS). Some supervisory experience required. Demonstrated ability to develop and produce narrative and statistical reports from various data sources; to plan and manage projects; to analyze data and make recommendations; to monitor, evaluate and interpret narrative and statistical data; and, to apply supervisory/management principles and techniques, to include planning and prioritizing the work of others. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.  Some knowledge of records retention and destruction requirements. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field or comparable combination of education and experience.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in higher education is highly preferred. Knowledge of web design tool – Site Builders is preferred.
