DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: VSU seeking individual to provide small ruminants (goats and sheep) and livestock production and management expertise; determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues involving Extension leadership councils and other leadership committees; develop and deliver objective and research-based educational programs to meet needs of target audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources. Inform clientele of program activities; and use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits, farm demonstration, field trips and tours. Maintain knowledge of current research information. Develop and implement evaluation plans. Recruit volunteers. Report results of clientele, public, and administration. Position requires frequent night and weekend work and frequent travel.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of animal nutrition, health, animal care, and reproduction. Demonstrated ability to recruit, select, train, and manage volunteers. Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs; to lead groups; and to evaluate educational information programs. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to work effectively with low income, limited resource, and minority audiences. Ability to write specialized grant proposals; to work with minimal supervision. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a related field required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for a degree. Valid Driver’s license required. Master’s degree preferred. Commercial agriculture experience preferred.
