DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Virginia State University is seeking a qualified professional to provide academic support, guidance/counseling services and activities to 75 first-generation, low-income students in the Upward Bound Program to prepare them for post-secondary education. Ensures that all participants graduate from high school and enroll into a post-secondary educational institution; exposes participants to educational, cultural and social activities; and to provide career development, college preparatory and academic advisement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree guidance, counseling or related field required. Successful candidate must have some experience working with TRIO or related program. Candidate must have knowledge of guidance and counseling principles relative to secondary and post-secondary education and the financial aid process. Candidate must have excellent organizational skills, along with strong oral and written communication skills. Candidate must have skills using Microsoft Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and database applications. Candidate must have knowledge of testing and evaluation; must be able to conduct presentations and workshops to large audiences and have some knowledge of office procedures to include budget management.
