DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position plans and executes the tasks associated with major university events such as Fall and Spring Commencement, Founder’s Day, Formal Convocation and Opening Conference, along with other special activities such as dinners, luncheons, receptions and programs as directed by the Vice President and the President of the University. This position will also assume major responsibilities for the work that will be done through the Virginia State University Foundation regarding the acquisition of properties that will be used for future expansion as specified in the University’s Master Plan and the 20/20 Strategic Plan. The position requirements include analytical support to the Vice President/Executive Director of the VSU Foundation regarding implementation of policies, procedures, meeting logistics, correspondence, VSUF website maintenance and presentations needed to facilitate the coordination of Foundation and University projects and relationships. This position develops, plans, and monitors the departmental fiscal budgets for Special Events of the Office of Development within established timelines. Serves as liaison to special guests of the President to the University and provides logistics and travel arrangements upon request.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of public relations principles, the agency’s organizational structure, and programs. Successful candidate must have working knowledge of university and state regulations, policies and procedures and of etiquette, protocol and conventional social amenities and event planning and budgetary methods; must have demonstrated ability to balance short-term needs while working towards long-term strategies; must have demonstrated ability to work on several projects simultaneously and displaying strong organizational skills and attention to detail; must have ability to work closely and effectively with all levels in the organization inclusive of the President; and must have ability to communicate effectively both orally and written communication.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree with coursework in public relations, business administration or a related field and/or equivalent combination of training and work experience is preferred.
