Virginia State Places Second at Bowie State Challenge

Virginia State University's women's and men's cross-country teams finished second at the Bowie State Challenge Cross-Country Meet, held on September 16 at Bowie State University.
The Lady Trojan cross-country team collected 43 team points, second only to host Bowie State's 18 team points.
Saint Paul's College was third with 68 points while Washington Adventist University finished fourth with 81 points.
Shamika Patton of BSU won individual honors with a time of 19:34 over the five-kilometer course. VSU's Raphaela Garris (above left) finished in third place with a time of 20:18, making her the highest Lady Trojan finisher.
VSU's Shanise Lewis finished seventh with a time of 21:18 while Sierra Clayton was eighth with a time of 21:25. VSU Jourdan Johnson was ninth with a time of 21:39 and Faith Brock was 16th with a time of 25:00.
On the men's side, VSU was barely edged out by Bowie State. Bowie State finished with 40 team points while VSU was second with 43.
Washington Adventist University was third with 79 points while Saint Paul's College was fourth with 81 points. Virginia Union University was fifth with 82 points.
Individual honors went to Daryl Sanders of Bowie State, who finished the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:14. VSU's Timothy Davidson (above right) was the highest Trojan finisher, completing the course in a time fo 27:08, good for third place.
VSU's Andres McIntyre was seventh with a time of 28:47 and Brandon Allen was eighth with a time of 28:59. Eric Williamson was ninth in a time of 29:03 while Mark Simms was 16th in a time of 30:32.
VSU now competes in the Trojan Invitational, to be held at 10 a.m. on September 19 in Rogers Stadium on the VSU campus.
