DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:            Virginia State University seeks two full-time positions as Professional Writing Tutors. Tutors will work directly with the Director of the Writing/EPortfolio Studio (WEPS), a developing, teaching and tutorial facility that offers writing and eportfolio assistance for students, faculty and staff. WEPS is a major component of the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan; the goal of the QEP is to develop a culture of writing to enhance student’s academic and professional success. The Professional Tutor’s primary responsibilities are to provide tutoring to undergraduate and graduate students; provide one-on-one, small groups, and large group writing instruction; serve as consultants for writing across the curriculum and writing intensive initiatives; assist director, faculty, and students with eportfolio initiative and implementation; identify, develop, and evaluate writing resources; assist director in training peer tutors and WEPS staff; and assist the director in all aspects of developing the WEPS, including future on-line tutorial services. 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:    PhD or MA in Composition, English, or English with a strong emphasis on the teaching of writing; demonstrated experience teaching composition and rhetoric, developmental writing, and literacy development; experience working as a tutor in a college/university center/studio; must have ability to offer writing across the curriculum and writing intensive consultations and workshop instruction; considerable experience with writing center pedagogy and use of print and digital portfolios to enhance teaching and learning; must have ability to assist studio director in conducting workshops and seminars, training and supervising peer tutors, and implementing the senior eportfolio initiative; must have ability to provide on-line writing assistance and tutorials; ability to assist Director in identifying, hiring and training undergraduate and graduate tutors as facilitators of small-group and one-on-one writing instruction; knowledge of WPA first-year writing outcome, guidelines and position statements of MLA, NCTE, and CCCC; and position guidelines of the National Writing Centers Association.
