DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The establishment of a state-of-the-art WEPS is a major component of the University’s Quality Enhancement Program, the goal of which it to develop a culture of writing to enhance student’s academic and professional success. Located in the center of the academic campus, the WEPS will serve as a teaching and tutorial facility that offers writing and eportfolio assistance for students, faculty, and staff. The Director of WEPS is the principal administrator with responsibility for the overall day-to-day operation of the studio. The primary responsibilities include the following: developing, managing, and supervising the studio’s programs; conducting assessment and evaluation activities; supervising and training professional tutors, peer tutors, and support staff; guiding the studio’s strategic planning; and developing new initiatives, including on-line tutorials; and co-managing the senior electronic portfolio initiative. This is a twelve month, tenure-track appointment at rank of assistant/associate professor of English.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or in English with a strong emphasis on teaching writing is required. Successful candidate must have considerable experience with teaching composition and rhetoric, theories of writing and learning, research methods and evaluation, and language and literacy development; demonstrated leadership, organizational and communication skills; experience in designing, managing, and directing a writing center; knowledge of evaluating writing and training resources; knowledge of institutional-wide writing assessment and program evaluation; experience with instructional technologies and computer-based resources and strategies; experience with teaching and tutoring of writing; expertise with Microsoft Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, and Dream Weaver; considerable experience designing writing workshops and materials; conducting workshops and seminars; training tutors; and supervising professional tutors, peer tutors and center staff; demonstrated experience record of teaching, advisement, research, scholarship and service/outreach; and experience in integrating technology in the teaching of writing a must.
